LOCAL TEAM OLD PROS RACING READIES FOR SATURDAY’S 8 HOURS
AT DAYTONA SUNTRUST MOTO-ST SERIES FINALE
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona International Speedway recently visited the shop
of one of the local SunTrust MOTO-ST Series teams competing in Saturday’s third
annual 8 Hours At Daytona season finale– Old Pros Racing.
Paul Schwemmer operates Old Pros Racing from his house located in Daytona Beach.
The 50-year-old Schwemmer will ride the No. 37 Suzuki 1000 with 1989 Daytona
200 By Honda champion John Ashmead of Ponce Inlet and Peru’s Roberto Vargas in
the grueling motorcycle endurance race at historic Daytona International Speedway
on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Schwemmer is a veteran racer of Daytona International Speedway and competed in
his first race at DIS back in 1982 aboard a Kawasaki. He has raced in the previous
two 8 Hours At Daytona. He rode a Suzuki in the inaugural 8 Hours back in 2006
and was aboard an Aprilia for 2007 event.
Along with his crew chief Larry Fernandez, Schwemmer says he spent close to 70
hours in his garage preparing for Saturday’s 8 Hours At Daytona, a motorcycle
endurance race that will start at 1 p.m. and finish under the lights at 9 p.m.
Schwemmer and his Old Pros Racing team are eighth in the SuperSport Twins class
(SST) standings having been able to only compete in three of the season’s races.
In the upcoming 8 Hours At Daytona, they hope to move up a couple spots in the
season-ending standings.
Tickets are available for this week’s Fall Cycle Scene motorcycle races online
at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
