ROCKY ROBINSON UNHURT IN 300 MPH BONNEVILLE CRASH
Day one of last year's BUB International Speed Trials at Bonneville resulted in a motorcycle world land speed record for pilot Rocky Robinson in the Ack Attack Suzuki-powered streamliner. Chris Carr broke the record about 48 hours later in Denis Manning's BUB 7 streamliner and held onto the ultimate speed when the meet closed a few days later. So this past Sunday, Robinson and Ack Attack team owner and builder Mike Akatiff were back in hopes of regaining the record they once held briefly. But what a difference a year makes. After making a first one-way run of 299 miles per hour, Robinson crashed while attempting a second run at reportedly over 300 miles per hour. He was unhurt in the incident and quickly up on his feet. As this Horst Roesler photo shows, the biggest damage was to the streamliner which can hopefully be repaired in time to continue its activities in the meet, which ends Thursday.
