hose Sportsters are getting a lot of well-deserved play lately, and don’t let anyone tell you an XL is a “baby Harley.” Light, nimble, quick and fast, a Sportster gets with the program. They look good, too, and in today’s economy the price is right.
SuperTrapp has just made all that better. The new Sportster 2-into-2 XR Style Exhaust System is the unmistakable offspring of SuperTrapp’s own flattrack racing systems. Those are the pipes all those hard-charging XR pilots have relied on for years. The new SuperTrapp system is a direct, street-oriented descendant of all that and it’s a bolt-on to both 883 and 1200 models. And with that tunable SuperTrapp technology at the tips of the megaphones, those race track looks are matched with a claimed 10-percent horsepower boost for the 883 and double that, 20-percent, for the bigger 1200.
There’s serious performance and long-lasting durability here. The Sportster 2-into-2 XR Style System features brushed stainless steel head pipes and megaphones and comes with a completely rebuildable core and packing. And of course there’s SuperTrapp’s own tunable disc technology, that quick, easy and effective tuning method allowing each system to be custom tuned to the installation. Adding or subtracting 4-inch discs to the pack can increase horsepower, exhaust tone and flow or reduce the sound while increasing low-end torque. The system comes with twenty-four 4-inch discs, 12 for each muffler, so there’s plenty of tuning room here and additional discs are available. Optional open end caps are available for closed-course competition.
Race-bred, this megaphone design allows the exhaust gas to expand, which increases power, while those discs allow total control over how much flow is desired. The system has 02 sensor ports to accept the stock sensors on fuel injected models and includes plugs for the ports when used on carbureted bikes. For ultimate durability the exhaust system bracket is mounted to the transmission, allowing it to move with the rubber-mounted motor.
The Sportster 2-into-2 XR Style Exhaust System is available right now. Drag Specialties has it. Don’t overlook everything else SuperTrapp has for the XL, too. There are 2-into-1 performance systems in chrome or black, there are Mean Mothers Drag pipes in chrome (black versions are coming soon) and in that popular Road Legends Series by Paul Yaffe there’s the famous X-Pipes in black, chrome and silver. For more information on any of this check with your Drag Specialties rep, or click over to SuperTrapp.com. SuperTrapp has updated the whole website with direct links to their own Forum and hundreds of additional video links to just about everything V-Twin. SuperTrapp’s “Pipeline” dealer newsletter is chock full of good info, too. But right now take a long, hard look at the Sportster 2-into-2 XR Style Exhaust System. Riders have asked for something like this for years. It’s here, and Drag Specialties has it.
