igh Intensity Discharge (HID) is the brightest lighting you can put on a motorcycle. It’s the same lighting technology off-road racers, like those guys racing the Baja for instance, wouldn’t leave the starting line without. Lazer Star, a supplier for off-roaders with their lights, now has HID driving lights–either a spot or a flood–available for street Harleys. And talk about lighting up the highway! Lazer Star’s iStar HIDs come housed in great looking and compact 2.75-in. x 4-in. chrome aluminum casings and with the 3/8-16 threaded mounting bolt the lights can be mounted almost anywhere on the bike. They make universal clamps, too, so placement on highway bars, for instance, is super easy. And the result, well, it’s illuminating…
HID lighting is a whole new ballgame. It uses an ignitor ballast (it’s right inside those aluminum housings) to deliver 900-plus Volts to an arch tube in the reflector. Light is emitted from an arc of electricity rather than a filament. The benefit is ultra-high output with low-amp draw. Lazer Star’s 6000 Kelvin color temperature lights are the same color temp as used on BMW luxury cars. Surveys show up to a 95-percent increase in nighttime visibility, and the lights really help folks see you coming during the day. And all this with only a 2.8-amp draw from the alternator.
Lazer Star is the first to bring HID Highway Lights to the motorcycle market. While both spot and flood beams are available, they recommend the iStar spot beam for street applications. This model’s 12-degree round beam effectively lights up everything a Harley’s headlight leaves in the dark. The 30w iStar HID spot gets you the same output as a 110w halogen light.
Lazer Star lights are almost standard equipment for off-road enthusiasts. On the highway that HID lighting is even more effective. The increase in visibility has to be seen to be believed. Nighttime riding becomes safer than ever. The Lazer Star iStar HIDs–both the spot and the flood–are available now and Drag Specialties has them along with those accessory mounting clamps and wiring kits, too. The iStar HIDs let you see where you’re going and that opens up a whole new world of riding. Try it and you’ll see. Literally… |
