n May 2, 2008, the 4th and 5th graders at Farwell Elementary School in Texas got the thrill of a lifetime when Travis Pastrana stopped by to pay them a visit. For the past two years, a few of the teachers at Farwell have been using Travis as a motivational tool in their classes, to help teach the kids about passion and the importance of following your dreams. Travis wanted to meet the kids and took the time to sit and visit with them, pose for pictures and sign some autographs. Definitely a day these kids will never forget!

ernard Li (62), founder of Eagle One Car Care Products, tragically passed away Saturday May 3rd as a result of injuries received in a single motorcycle accident on Highway 260, just outside of Springerville Arizona. Springerville is near Eager Arizona, in the Eastern Arizona area. The accident happened at approximately 10:30 Saturday morning. The cause of the accident is unknown and there were no witnesses.
Barney, to his friends, was a life time motorcycle enthusiast and entrepreneur. In addition to his highly successful Eagle One Company, Barney also created Wheels of Fortune Motorcycles, a Yamaha dealership in Carson, California. His dream was to recreate the Vincent Motorcycle brand and he had developed several exciting prototypes of the reincarnated icon.
Mr. Li is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his two sons Justin and Darren, his daughter Nikki and brother Jerry.
Gary Bryson, a long time friend of Barney’s was also on the ride. He said, “We don’t know the cause of the accident, but we do know that he was doing what he loved to do and that’s ride his motorcycles.” Barney was an experienced rider, having ridden motorcycles since his college days. We may never know what caused this tragedy, but we know he will be missed by his friends and family, as well as his many business associates.

he motorcycle sport and industry mourns the loss of John Matherson. According to a report in the Orange County Register, John Matherson, owner of Mission Motorsports in Irvine, CA, was killed in a motorcycle crash on the back roads of South Orange County on Saturday, May 17th. He was riding solo on Rancho Carrillo Road, south of Ortega Highway, when the incident occurred. There were no known witnesses and Matherson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Parts Magazine Publisher Don Emde reflected on his long friendship with John, saying, “John has been so much a part of the motorcycle sport in Southern California for so many years, it is hard to condense it down into a brief overview. Many years ago he was involved in roadracing, then later racing the amazing dirt track Speedway sidecars. Through the years he rode virtually everything from trailbikes to roadbikes. His motorcycle retail store was right in my area in South Orange County and I enjoyed watching him and his wife Robin build their business up from a struggling little store alongside Interstate 5 in Laguna Niguel to what is now the anchor motorcycle store of the area with Mission Motorsports in Irvine.
We’d buy all our motorcycles from John as well as the Yamaha Rhino that we turned into a project for Parts Magazine. All of the service and installation work for the project was done at Mission Motorsports. I always enjoyed stopping by his store, as you could count on John’s smiling face to greet you back in the Service Department, where John spent most of his day. It hasn’t really sunk in yet how much we’ll miss him.”
From all of us at Parts Magazine we offer our sincere condolences to John’s wife Robin, his family, and everyone at Mission Motorsports. Godspeed old friend.
