t’s hard to believe that yet another Supercross season has come and gone. Seems like just yesterday that we were all anxiously awaiting the first race in Anaheim, and now the Vegas finale is over, champions have been crowned and the Outdoor Nationals have begun.
The 2008 season saw some big changes, some anticipated, like Ricky Carmichael’s retirement from the AMA Series, and some unexpected, like James Stewart’s unfortunate knee injury that took him out of contention for the 2008 Supercross series. However, even amidst the absence of RC and Stewart, the boys on the 450s gave us a good show. Chad Reed rode great all season, with consistent wins and podium finishes, and despite some downfalls; a nasty practice crash that sent him to the ER, a losing battle with a Daytona deluge that ended in a DNF and with the ever hard-charging Kevin Windham right on this tail, Reed managed to come away from the Las Vegas finale with his second AMA Supercross Championship.
Supercross rookie Josh Hill had a phenomenal season! With a win and numerous podium finishes, Hill finished 5th overall in the series.
Pro Circuit’s Ryan Villopoto and Austin Stroupe made a good showing in the Supercross Lites class, finishing 2nd (West) and 3rd (East) overall, respectively.
Next, on to the AMA Motocross Nationals!
