t doesn’t matter what type of bike they ride, everyone coming into your dealership is a potential K&N customer. Cruiser riders, for instance, guys with those Honda VTX1800s, Kawasaki VN2000s and the Yamaha Road Stars…they’re all prime candidates for the K&N conversion. You can give it to them, too, with packages like the RK Series Filter Kits. These eye-catching and custom correct covers and backing plates pack a genuine K&N High Flow Air Filter inside. It’s a real bolt-on boost in both performance and looks.
That’s just the start. There are K&N applications like that across the entire moto-board. New bikes, old bikes, street bikes, sport bikes, dirt bikes, MXers ATVs, and UTVs–they’re all covered by the K&N collection. All of those K&N High Flow Air Filters are direct drop-in replacements, too. They slip right into the OE air boxes. They’re a no-hassle fit for the newest fuel-injected bikes and the same is true for all those venerable old road warriors still sporting a row of four hungry carburetors. All those K&N High Flow Air Filters–along with the matching and complementary K&N High Performance Oil Filters–are right there in the Parts Unlimited catalogs, right where you’ve done all your ordering day-in and day-out.
Don’t keep any of this a secret. Make sure every one of those potential K&N customers actually becomes a K&N customer, and there are a few simple steps you can take to accomplish just that. The payoff can be huge. Remember, everyone is a potential K&N customer. Turning that potential into a reality is easier than you’d think.

Here’s a great start. You do your ordering from those Parts Unlimited catalogs and learn plenty as you do it. Let your customers browse some catalogs, too. Do it by keeping a few K&N catalogs out for easy customer access. Put them out right by the K&N display. Riders will pick them up and get the full K&N story. They’ll learn about all the features and benefits coming with a K&N filter and learn why K&N is the overwhelming pick of race teams worldwide. And, of course, they’ll get to look up and discover everything K&N has available for them and their bike, ATV or UTV. Leaving a few of those K&N catalogs out won’t cost you a dime. It’ll make you dollars, though, and do plenty of selling.

The best way to increase exposure and sales for any nationally recognized brand, K&N included, is to put that name and that product in front of the customer. Let customers see all the K&N you stock, or at least a good amount of it. Arrange some of those High Flow Air Filters, the Custom Covers, the Performance Oil Filters and the Cleaning & Service Supplies and Kits into displays that will be seen. Make it a good-looking, attention-grabbing display no one can miss. K&N and Parts Unlimited have plenty of help here. There are Counter-Top Oil Filter Displays available, there are Slatwall/Gridwall Displays, Floor Standing Displays, Banners for the Service Department and they’re all super-effective ways to increase visibility and build sales.

Every K&N filter is a performance part. Drive that fact home by placing some of those K&N displays right next to some of your other performance parts. Your exhaust wall, for instance. Put a K&N display and some corresponding inventory right next to it. Pipes and mufflers are one of the first performance upgrades riders make, street and off-road. Make sure those customers know that a genuine K&N High Flow Air Filter should be part of that exhaust-system purchase. It’ll add just a fraction to the total ticket for a set of pipes and mufflers, but let customers know you have to get the air in before you start worrying about getting it out. Make sure performance customers get that message loud and clear. Be sure to have all the stock you need for that, too. If you have full sets of exhausts for both MXers and cruisers on the wall have the High-Flow Performance Filters to go with those exact models.

Anyone who’s bought a K&N High Flow Filter is going to need a K&N Re-Charge Kit to go with it. K&N’s air filters are pretty much a lifetime deal, especially on the street where they carry a million-mile guarantee–something riders will learn while perusing those catalogs–but they do require periodic cleaning and servicing. Not every customer is a hands-on/do-it-yourselfer, either, especially some of the cruiser customers. Be ready to install or service all those K&N products. Extra-Large K&N Cleaners and Re-Oiling Supplies are available through Parts Unlimited for just that purpose.
Simple steps, and they’ll all work to build sales. Shake things up and move things around a little in your own showroom and you’ll see for yourself. Selling K&N is just a matter of putting the word out. The customers are already there.
