otorcycles require lots of electricity. There’s that EFI system and high-current draw starters, to begin with, and those EFI sensors, switches and injectors, not to mention the computerized control module itself, demand a steady diet of Volts and Amps–all at the prescribed levels. That’s just a plain-Jane stripper Harley. A high-performance bike with more cranking needs and those equipped with overdrive transmissions, or a bagger with the full complement of lights, radios, CD/DVD players, intercom systems and whatever else a rider adds can result in an electrical demand that’s downright staggering.
Expecting a stock 32-Amp single-phase alternator to keep up with all this is asking a lot. That’s especially true when a bike is most-often ridden on short hops around town. This minimizes the battery charging time, and the charging rate. Before long that battery has lost its charge, performance suffers (EFI is demanding; don’t feed it the Volts and Amps it needs and it’ll tell you) and ultimately there might not be enough juice left to crank the engine. Not a good situation.
Compu-Fire has the cure. It’s a 3-Phase Charging System that provides a steady 25-Amps at idle. Stock is 12- to 15-Amps at best; barely enough to keep the engine running much less recharge the battery. The Compu-Fire 3Phase then jumps to a continuous 40-Amps at anything above 2,800 RPM, plenty enough to keep everything well-fed and happy. All this is a direct replacement on Evo and Twin-Cam engines and the systems come complete. Compu-Fire includes a precision-wound 3Phase Stator, a dynamically balanced vented rotor (for wet-primary installations), a matching series-type voltage regulator with all the required Weatherpak terminals and connectors and there’s an oversized flanged seal spacer for maximum rotor support.      Everything’s here for an easy bolt-for-bolt replacement and there are complete systems available for Evos from 1981 up and all the Twin-Cams. There’s a choice of open- or closed-primary in both cases, too.
Running out of juice is no fun. It’s certainly no prescription for any kind of performance. Compu-Fire’s 3Phase Charging System cures that problem fast.      Starting at idle. It’s available now, so ask your Drag Specialties rep for more information.
