orking smart always makes a shop successful, profitable and keeps things humming. K&N Filters has some great tips and techniques to help dealers sell even more of those High Flow Air Filters, Performance Oil Filters, the RK Series Filter/Backing Plate Packages, the Service Kits and everything else in that K&N lineup. None of this will cost much, all of it will boost sales and it’ll all add to that one bottom line that really counts–yours. Take a look…

You do your ordering straight from the Drag Specialties FatBook. Everything you need is right there. Customers, however, like to browse and informed browsing is always productive. Keep a few K&N catalogs out for easy customer access, and keep them right by the K&N display. Those catalogs include the history of the company, describe all the features and benefits of a K&N filter and, of course, have the complete application lists for the entire American V-twin lineup. Those catalogs will answer most customer questions and do lots of selling for you.

The best way to increase exposure for any nationally recognized brand is to put it in front of the customer. That’s how impulse buys happen. If you have any amount of K&N Air Filters, Oil Filters or Cleaning Supplies in the store put it all out where it’ll be seen. Drag Specialties has plenty of display options to help promote K&N, so use them. Counter-Top Oil Filter Displays, Slatwall/Gridwall Displays, Floor Standing Displays, Banners for the Service Department–they’re all easy and effective ways to increase visibility and build sales.

Here’s a great one. If you have an exhaust wall, put that K&N display and inventory right next to it. Pipes and mufflers are one of the first performance upgrades a rider makes. Make sure he knows that a K&N High Flow Air Filter should be part of that purchase. Hey, you have to get the air in before you start worrying about getting it out. At an average $700 for a full exhaust system, that Performance Air Filter or Complete Air Cleaner Assembly–at a fraction of what those pipes cost–is an easy add-on sale. Be sure to have the stock you need, too; if you have a full set of exhausts for a 2007 Twin-Cam on the wall you better have the High-Flow Performance Filters to go with it.

Ringing up K&N sales should be an on-going thing. Anyone who’s bought a High Flow Filter recently is going to need a K&N Re-Charge Kit to go with it. K&N’s air filters are pretty much a lifetime deal, but they do require cleaning and servicing. Not all customers are do-it-yourselfers, either, so be ready to install or service that K&N product yourself. Extra-Large K&N Cleaners and Re-Oiling Supplies are available through Drag Specialties for just that purpose.
So whether you’re in Parts or Service K&N has your back. Get the right part numbers in your display, put that display where customers see it, link it all to performance and offer to install and service it. Simple steps, and they’ll put some real performance into your sales.
