ou’ve seen the problem: You swap handlebars for a different look/feel and make the switch to some braided brake line to spiff up that conversion–only that new line’s banjo fitting doesn’t want to mate to the master cylinder without being forced into position. As a result that new brake line starts to kink, twist and refuses to go where you want it to. The resulting look is hardly what you’d hoped for. Magnum Shielding’s just fixed all that and it’s called the “Swivel-Fit.”
The problem here stems from the orientation of the master cylinder on the new handlebar. It changes, and the chances of an original banjo fitting–or some replacement–mating up exactly as it did when stock are slim to none. Harley-Davidson spends untold hours designing those brake lines to fit as neatly as they do. The line can’t be too long, it can’t be too short. More than that, if you’re dealing with an unyielding braided line the banjo fitting at the business end of that line must be at a specific bend angle and its “clocking” needs to be within a few degrees to assure a correct fit with the port on the master cylinder. Trying to retrofit ordinary braided lines within these parameters is nigh onto impossible. When a banjo fitting is forced into some new orientation it doesn’t like the whole line takes on a life of its own, kinking and twisting in the most unsightly ways. One way out of this mess, of course, is to make up a new fitting using a collection of AN hardware but that brings on its own set of problems. Do you really want to have some big, bulky fitting assembly right up where it’s in plain view?
Magnum Shielding’s solution to all this is exquisite. Instead of using some sort of universal fitting for the brake line, which as noted can be pretty ugly, Magnum has fit a DOT approved swivel fitting right in the middle of the line. The swivel is neatly concealed underneath the lower triple tree where it stays completely hidden using the supplied clip. The payoff here is that with the Swivel-Fit in the line the upper half can be perfectly mated to the master cylinder with a sleek and smooth banjo fitting and there will be no kinks or binds anywhere. The same is true for the lower half of the line running down to the caliper. The Swivel Fit is a true, factory-assembled one-piece brake line, too, and it’s available in a variety of different alternative lengths and with different banjo fittings at different angles. It’s the cleanest solution you’re likely to find for the enthusiastic rider who won’t compromise.
The Swivel Fit is available for all Harley-Davidson single-disc front ends. There are applications for all models, and there are lots of length and fitting options. From the Swivel-Fit down to the caliper there are a number of different lengths offered and the upper half of that line above that Swivel Fit is offered in stock lengths and lengths graduating above that. There’s a plus-2-in., a plus-4-in., a plus-6, a plus-8 and so on. All those lines are available with a variety of banjo fittings and they’re offered with different bend angles so there will be an exact, and neat, fit every time. The Swivel Fit really does make a difference, solve a problem and it’s available now.
This season Magnum Shielding has some new looks available for all of its braided brake lines and cables, too. In addition to the Sterling Chromite® everyone’s familiar with there’s now a Polished Stainless and a Black Pearl. The Polished Stainless is exceptionally bright and really does look like it’s been polished. The Black Pearl is right in tune with the times and the current trend toward the blacked-out look and features matching black-chromed fittings. Both the Polished Stainless and the Black Pearl have all the performance attributes of the Magnum Sterling Chromite, and the brake lines have the same OEM compatibility, the same bulletproof Kevlar-over-Teflon construction, the same astronomically high DOT safety and performance ratings. It’s all here in a new look. The new cables and lines are identical to the original Sterling Chromite lineup of products, other than the outer aesthetics.
Drag Specialties has all of this right now, the Swivel-Fit, the Black Pearl, Polished Stainless and of course the Sterling Chromite. Magnum Shielding’s always said its products are for the serious enthusiast who won’t compromise. Twenty-five years in business, they just proved it again.

Magnum Shielding’s new “Swivel Fit” solves the frustrating problem of kinking and twisting brake lines. Magnum fitted a DOT approved swivel fitting in the middle of the brake line, allowing the line to be installed with the clean and smooth look that your customers want. The Swivel Fit is available in stock lengths and also in a variety of other lengths to fit all Harley-Davidson single-disc front ends."
