ubic inches. Often it is all a customer wants to talk about when it comes to a replacement engine. But large displacement engines are not always the right answer for all bikes. When you have a customer looking to replace an 80ci engine in a bagger or some other model that sees plenty of high mileage trips, S&S has the right engine available–the 107T Touring Special.
Built to bolt directly in where an 80ci used to be, the 107T offers plenty of bottom end torque and much quieter operation. Based on a 4.00-inch bore and a 4 1/4-inch stroke, the 107T has only a 9.5:1 compression ratio. For a distance or touring rider it means that the occasional tank of low quality fuel isn’t going to be a problem.
The 107T is built with a quiet S&S cam and single coil valve springs to enhance the quiet operation of the engine. It is the perfect replacement engine for any customer interested in high mileage and plenty of low and mid range performance.
In keeping with that thought of racking up plenty of miles, S&S Oil Filters are a natural for your parts department. Regular oil and filter changes are the best way to keep an engine healthy and that is especially true when it comes to an air-cooled engine. S&S designed filters that offer the best protection for an engine while still offering the best oil circulation for the application. That means there are two styles of S&S filters available–one for single cam engines and another for dual cam engines. There is no universal filter that works well on both. S&S filters are available in black or chrome and will work on other engines as well–not just an S&S.
Finally, it is a good time to talk carburetors. While the last few years of new bike production have seen a switch to fuel injection, there are still literally millions of carbureted bikes on the road. And those bikes are the perfect place for an S&S Super E or G carburetor.
Long the standard in performance fuel delivery, the Super Series carbs are the perfect complement to any hop-up you do on a bike. Easy tuning, simple service and applications to fit almost any V-twin around, the Super E and G are the way to go. The 1 7/8-inch (47.6mm) bore E is best for engines under 100ci and the larger, 2 1/16-inch (52.3mm) bore works best on engines over 100ci. As an added benefit, the Super E and G carbs are compatible with 1981 and up throttle cables (except 1987-2003 Harley-Davidson® Sportster® motorcycles) so they will bolt on almost any bike that rolls in your shop quickly and easily.
