he Motor Company comes up with its changes, updates and upgrades on what lately seems to be a weekly basis. Okay, maybe not all that frequently, but nonetheless the new 2008 models have some significant differences from the ‘07 models. All this is reflected in some of the replacement/ service parts now required by those new bikes.
The big touring Harleys, for instance, now have a completely different throttle control system. It’s electronic, and besides the obvious hard-parts differences between the ‘07 and ‘08 bikes that intake-system switch was accompanied by a corresponding switch in the air filter’s backing plate. And–as you might expect–a change in the design and fit of the air filter matched to that backing plate.
The 2008 touring-model Harleys require an air-filter element all their own. Harley didn’t stop there. The 2008 Dyna models got a new, and unique to them, air filter element, too. And of course all the corresponding factory-accessory performance extras for those bikes, the Screamin’ Eagle parts, also need new filter elements now.
Last year’s parts won’t work with this year’s bikes. But if you’re thinking the only choice here is a genuine Harley replacement part you’re thinking wrong.
K&N already has the new filter elements for all those newest Harleys. There are
2008-fitment K&N High Flow Air Filters for the OE Harley-Davidsons and for the Harleyaccessory Screamin’ Eagle airfilter packages. Drag Specialties has them in stock now.
All these new filter elements are the same quality high-flow K&N’s as always. They use the same specially treated and oiled cotton gauze as the filtering medium, they’re made in the same California plant as always, they’re serviceable and reusable as always and they’ve all been designed and tested to perform at the peak of both filtration and enhanced airflow. And they’re shaped and configured to perfectly
match the fitment requirements of the OE 2008 Harleys and the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle accessory air filter assemblies.
These 2008 fitment High Flow Air Filter elements are available now. And stay tuned because all that will soon be followed with complete K&N Air Filter assemblies for those 2008 bikes, the familiar and popular RK Series Kits.
There are some design changes here, too, only this time they’re coming from K&N. Instead of machining the RK Series backing plate out of billet aluminum as has been
done in the past these two newmodel packages will feature brand-new cast aluminum backing plates. There’s a definite functional advantage here, too: Because of the manufacturing process involved in the construction of these cast-aluminum RK Series backing plates they’ll have internal-run breathers. It’s a clean, simple design and it works like a charm. Those 2008-model RK Series Filter Kits are a few months away but keep an eye on these pages because they’re coming, and when they do Drag
Specialties will have them. Right now, however, those 2008-model High Flow Air
Filters are in stock and you know where to get them. Call your Drag Specialties rep and place the order.
