n September 2006 Denis Manning and the BUB Team made Bonneville history capturing the World Land Speed Record for motorcycles. The bike doing it was Manning’s seventh streamliner, aptly named “7.” Completely handcrafted with extra thought and attention lavished everywhere, “BUB 7” was a commitment to build the best.
That same commitment is right here in BUB’s newest lineup of street bike exhausts, full systems and Slip-Ons bearing that streamliner’s name. “These pipes,” Manning says, “are dedicated to the idea that you can make something better than it has to be.” The BUB 7 exhausts are available in True Dual, 2-into-1, 2-into-2 and Slip-On configurations.
The BUB 7 lineup has applications covering the entire Harley-Davidson model line and Manning insists that the quality has to be exceptional every time. “Our mission, said Manning, “is to be the Lexus of the industry. These things are gorgeous. And they sound and work even better than they look,” he enthused. These pipes were two years in development and are now produced using the latest, most technologically advanced manufacturing processes. These pipes are robotically polished, and the difference between this and standard hand-polishing, Manning says, “…is the difference between night and day.” A robot does the job the same way every time and uniformly polishes the part keeping the metal grain flowing in the right direction while consistently applying the correct amount of pressure. That’s attention to detail and it’s just the start of the BUB 7 feature list.
All BUB 7 exhausts have a uniquely beveled inlet for easier installation, and at the other end of things the End Caps are a story in themselves. “We did these the hard way,” Manning goes on, explaining the extra machining these parts receive. The BUB 7 End Caps all have a specially shaped internal taper. It handles sound waves in a completely new way. The result is less overall sound, but with a lower and deeper rumble and the taper enhances flow, which translates into horsepower. “We threw a lot of thought into just that End Cap,” said Manning. He added, “The BUB 7s with their stepped headers and those very special End Caps are quieter than a Rinehart, as a comparison, yet in-house dyno testing has netted even more horsepower and torque.”
More BUB 7 details: The 2-into-1 systems features miter-cut 1 3/4-inch headers merging into a big 2 1/2-inch collector. That flows into a muffler starting at 2 1/2-inches and exiting at a fat 4 1/2-inches with that special slash-cut billet aluminum End Cap. There’s a unique mounting system here, too, and it applies across the entire BUB 7 line. An adjustable bracket allows infinite positioning from Slash-Out to Slash-Down and that’s true for the 2-into-1, the 2-into-2 and the Slip-On mufflers. You can make these pipes look exactly how you want them to look. There’s full 220-degree heat shielding across the board and of course O2 sensor ports are included to accept OEM or aftermarket closed-loop fuel management systems. The BUB 7 True Duals are available with or without a crossover, too, another unique option.
All this is brand new. The BUB 7s were just debuted at the Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited NVP to rave reviews and ads are just beginning to break this month. “Once you see these things for yourself,” Manning says, “once you get your hands on them you’ll understand. The quality becomes evident the moment you open the box. We really did make these pipes and mufflers better than they had to be.” Drag Specialties has them all now.
