n Tuesday, August 7th Metzeler hosted their hugely popular Custom Bike Contest for the fifth consecutive year. Always a thrilling competition, this year’s contest proved to be no exception, featuring some of the top builders in the country and a platoon of one-of-a-kind, Metzeler-equipped, custom V-twin creations, all vying for a host of exceptional prizes.
Hundreds of fans, riders and fellow builders turned out to check out the bikes, cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award and mix and mingle with numerous celebrity guests. The Seminole Hard Rock wowed attendees with their Celebrity Bike Tour while industry icons Eddie Trotta, Rick Fairless, Orange County Choppers and Indian Larry Legacy joined the Metzeler girls to greet fans and sign autographs throughout the day. OCC also pulled double duty as they emceed the consumer launch of their highly anticipated, limited edition production bike line, with Paul Sr. and Junior unveiling and discussing the bikes in front of an enthusiastic crowd eager to get their first glimpse of the four stunning choppers.
Amateur and professional builders competed in the Consumer Class (Stages 1 and 2), Stage 3, Custom Builder/Custom Chopper and Bobber/Old School categories. Best of Show winner was Greg Carter of Vicious Cycles. Carter will receive an all-expense paid trip to Metzeler’s headquarters in Germany with American Iron editor Chris Maida and will also be the subject of a future American Iron feature story. In addition, he netted a spot in the upcoming Metzeler ad and poster series, a seat at the Annual Metzeler Round Table in Cincinnati and an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime apprenticeship with Eddie Trotta of Fort Lauderdale’s Thunder Cycle Design.
