here’s nothing like the rumble of a well-tuned V-twin engine to get your blood pumping. And there’s nothing quite like the infuriating rattle of a poorly made forward-control kit to get your blood boiling. That rattling comes from worn bushings in the pivot points, and only gets worse over time, no matter how much grease you slather on or how tightly you torque the mounting bolts. There is a simple way to get rid of the rattle, though–forward-control kits by Accutronix. And for 2008, there are applications to fit even more bikes than before, including Harley-Davidsons, Big Dogs, and customs.
Accutronix forward-control kits use sealed roller bearings instead of plain bushings, not only for quiet operation but for better feel at the controls, as well. Sealed roller bearings offer advantages that plain bushings don’t. First, because they’re sealed, they never need lubrication, unlike bushings that need to be greased periodically to prevent wear and to keep the controls from binding. Second, the bearings don’t rust or wear out, two problems that bring about that annoying rattle you can get from controls with worn bushings. Instead, the transmission shifts more smoothly, and the rear brake takes less effort and provides better feedback under hard stops. Lifetime lubrication, tight clearances, and smooth, quiet operation make it easy to see why Accutronix forward controls stand out.
Using sealed roller bearings instead of bushings is just one of the features that sets Accutronix forward controls above the rest. They use 3/4-inch mounting plates instead of the 1/2-inch plates used by some other brands. And unlike some kits that are stamped out by machines and sent on their way with only a cursory inspection, every set of Accutronix forward controls is handmade, and hand-inspected, before it leaves the factory.
For 2008 Accutronix is adding several new products to its line, including 49mm raked triple trees for 2006-and-later Dyna models, as well as new forward-control kits for FLH models. For several years they’ve offered extended forward-control kits for baggers that replace the stock floorboards with footpegs and extend them far enough forward to accommodate very tall riders who would otherwise be sitting with their knees practically under their chins. Accutronix now makes the same kits with less forward extension so most riders of average height can enjoy a stretched-out riding position, too, with the same sealer roller-bearing technology as every other Accutronix forward-control kit.
Accutronix has a complete line of forward-control kits for Harley-Davidson models, even the new 2008s, but did you know they also fit Big Dog motorcycles? If your customer has a Big Dog, and wants to replace the stock controls with an Accutronix kit, just call Accutronix and tell them what model Big Dog you’re dealing with, and they’ll tell you the Drag Specialties part number to order.
Drag Specialties carries eight styles of Accutronix forward controls to fit every Harley model except the V-Rod. No other manufacturer offers as many styles. Each kit comes complete with a shift rod and a brake rod. All you or your customer needs to do is take it out of the box and bolt it on. All kits use the stock brake line except extended kits.
You’ll find most Accutronix products in their respective sections of the 2007 FatBook, but don’t forget to check out the special Accutronix section beginning on page 1258. Here you’ll find triple trees and triple-tree conversion kits, air-cleaner inserts, derby covers, forward-control kits, grips, fender spacers, electronic speedometer mount kits, rear-brake master cylinders, fork-tube covers, handlebar risers, footpegs, license-plate mounts, and more. Each listing features updated photography to better show off the quality finish and great style of these Accutronix products.
Look to Accutronix for the best in forward controls, triple trees, and more, and make 2008 the year you take control of your accessory sales.
