irelli jumped into the performance-tire ATV ring with its Rut Buster and Mudwiser back in 2005, following up with the introduction of the Racerail XC in 2006 and the Racerail MX in 2007. Proof of Pirelli’s performance edge in the ATV market came quickly with the Rut Buster winning a Field and Stream “Best of the Best” award a month after it was launched. A combination of extensive research and the knowledge gained from 46 MX World Championships has proven to be a combination capable of producing the most advanced, high-performance ATV tire line on the market. Before going to market, all four of the Pirelli tread patterns were tested in Sicily, Brazil and the United States by professional Pirelli test riders and by pro GNCC racers.

hether you are a weekend warrior, farmer or hunter, you want a tire that provides you with a great experience in varying conditions. Pirelli’s focus with the Rut Buster was in three key areas: forward and reverse traction, riding stability and rider comfort. The contoured profile of the Rut Buster gives the rider precise cornering and steering response that allows them to attack trails of all types. The open V-shape tread pattern was designed to provide excellent traction in both forward and reverse which is important when navigating those tight trails or extreme terrain. When a consumer replaces his OE tires with Rut Buster, it becomes clear to them why Field and Stream called the Rut Buster from Pirelli the best general purpose tire they had ever tested.

e found out from speaking with consumers who love to ride in the mud that the tires available on the market were falling short of their expectations. They had to take a trail to get to and from their favorite mud hole and on the trail was where the competition’s mud tires were a disappointment. Our challenge to the engineers was to create a tire with extreme forward and reverse traction in deep mud, but also a tire that would allow the rider to enjoy the total riding experience in all conditions,” explained Ascanio Fassati, Pirelli ATV Business Development Manager.
The Mudwiser’s mission to be the best “all around” mud tire available today is due to Pirelli’s engineers focusing on the “balanced performance approach.” The compounds were enhanced for example to create more durability but also a consistent performance. The design of the Mudwiser’s profile and x-ply carcass gives the rider the feedback of a radial tire but at a much more affordable price. Finally, the 6-ply carcass in combination with a stiffer sidewall gives riders confidence on the trail and while driving through the deepest mud.

irelli is a name synonymous worldwide with performance and racing so it made sense that the company followed the ATV utility tire line with a cross-country race tire. The testing was extensive and took place on three continents by some of the most competent test riders and racers available. The testing project led to a fantastic production tire that was ready to go racing. In the current season of active racing, the Pirelli Racerail XC got on the podium after only its third race in Morganton, N.C. with rider GNCC Pro Racer Bryan Cook.      “For Pirelli to come out with a tire this good out of the box, I am impressed. They were so predictable it just made the race that much easier,” Cook reported.
The Pirelli Racerail XC is durable with a 6-ply carcass but also precise with a tread design that gives excellent cornering attributes and incredible grip under braking. The shape of the rear tire was designed to get the power to the ground and offer excellent high-speed stability for getting those holeshots and making it stick with straight line confidence at racing speeds.

irelli’s newest addition to their ATV line-up is a tire that saw even more testing and development than the Racerail XC. After the immediate success of the XC, Pirelli wanted to take this formula of success and translate it over to ATV motocross. The Racerail MX was launched and given accolades from both journalists and racers alike. Just like the Racerail XC, the MX was given a special profile and knob pattern to provide precise handling on the motocross track and a softer compound and carcass that provided maximum grip and consistent performance. Just like the Racerail XC, the Racerail MX will be competing at the track in the WPSA and GNC series.
Pirelli is one of the most famous tire brands in the world. When Pirelli gets into a new segment of the market, success is sure to follow. See your Parts Unlimited rep for more details on Pirelli’s line of ATV tires.
