f there’s anything that could use a little help in the suspension department it’s got to be those increasingly popular side-by-side Utility Vehicles. The UTVs are the workhorses of the powersport market, only sometimes their suspension systems just aren’t up to the work at hand. It sure would be nice if a totally adjustable air-ride system was available here, better still if that system was adjustable at the touch of a button and able to be regulated on the fly, switching suspension settings as the situation demanded. That system is available now. Legend’s Off-Road Suspension System brings true, totally adjustable air-ride technology to the machines that can really use it, the UTVs.
     Legend, of course, is no stranger to the air-suspension field. Legend’s Air Ride Systems are known and respected throughout the motorcycle world; because of their height adjustability they’re almost mandatory on a custom. And touring riders have flocked to the Legend systems as well, installing them for the smooth ride and extra load-carry capacity they offer at the touch of a button. Developed by Jesse Jurrens back in 1997, the Legend Air Ride Systems are tough, they’re easily installed, they’re beautifully crafted out of the finest 6061-T6 billet aluminum and they incorporate genuine Gates Rubber Company air springs custom made by Gates to Legend’s specifications. And everything’s included in the kits. The individual suspension units themselves, the on-board compressor, the switches, wiring and lines are all part of the package.      Legend Air spent some considerable time getting all this right for the Utility Vehicles. This all-new air-ride suspension conversion–which includes four individually adjustable suspension units, one for each corner–was four years in the making. In the motorcycle world the Legend Air reputation for quality is, well, legendary, and that unflinching attention to even the smallest detail is all here in the new air-ride systems for UTVs. A patent pending Mono-tube shock features Deflective Disc damping technology and the shock body itself is machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum that’s received a durable corrosion resistant finish. Each shock absorber has a big 2-inch outside diameter and inside there’s a beefy 1 3/8-inch piston attached to a strong 1/2-inch diameter stainless steel rod. These units are built tough to do a tough job. All this is matched with four Legend Air/Gates Rubber Kevlar-reinforced air springs that maintain their prescribed dimensions throughout their travel and no matter what the inflation rate or pressure. Air pressure, of course, is regulated with an on-board compressor that comes with all the required mounting hardware, all the required wiring and all the necessary air lines and switches. Nothing’s missing.
     With a Legend Off-Road Suspension under it a UTV becomes a real utility vehicle, able to take on any job carrying almost any payload and do it without fuss, bother or complaint. The air-ride offer significantly increased wheel travel with an equally increased suspension articulation, that greatly increased load-carrying capacity with no bottoming out no matter what the load weight or trail conditions and just like on all those touring bikes with their Legend Air the ride quality itself is enhanced exponentially. The benefits to an air-ride aren’t limited to just pumping up the load carrying ability of a UTV, either. Legend’s Off-Road Suspension, just like all those systems on the motorcycles, is a lot more comfortable overall. It’s a change you can feel right in the seat of your pants. Loaded down or empty, that UTV becomes lots smoother, more responsive and definitely more confidence inspiring. And that push-button adjustability will come in handy more often than you’d think, too. The UTVs ride height can be raised up for extra ground clearance when it’s needed, and it can be dropped down low, too, perfect for slipping the UTV into an enclosed trailer with a short roof. And all that adjustability, full-low to full-high, happens at the touch of a button and it happens in seconds.
