here is a reason that seats are one of the first accessories bought by a new bike owner. When a motorcycle manufacturer builds a bike, they build it to fit an average person–average height, weight, leg and arm length and riding style. However, most people are not “average” and have tastes and preferences that make them a little picky about the seat that they occupy for thousands and thousands of miles.
Knowing that, Danny Gray has developed a line of motorcycle seats that help the average motorcycle to be a lot less average. Gray has been around motorcycles for well over 30 years and has learned a few things about how to make a long day on a bike a lot more pleasant and that starts with a comfortable seat.
All Danny Gray seats are built with a hand-laid fiberglass pan. By using fiberglass, Gray and his craftsmen can shape the seat to the motorcycle perfectly, and create a specified amount of flex in the pan to add comfort.
Riding high atop the fiberglass pan is the foam, but not just any foam. Gray uses a highly resilient, open cell foam that has no break in period. That means from the very first time you sit down on a Danny Gray seat, it feels like it is supposed to–comfortable, supportive and inviting you to spend a long time on it.
Danny Gray seats are covered in premium leather that has been carefully selected to ensure consistent quality and good looks. But the whole seat is not leather. In the interest of keeping a Danny Gray seat looking good for a very long time, the decision was made to cover the seat surface in leather, but make the side skirts out of automotive quality vinyl. Why? Because the sides are where all the stress, flexing and general wear and tear show up.
The quality doesn’t stop there. Gray offers his seats in a number of unique styles and cosmetic designs. Rather than just offer a standard stitching pattern, most Danny Gray seats are offered with a choice of a Mantis, Flame, Smooth or Double Time stitch pattern. Additionally, some models offer studs to complement the looks of your bike.
So you know about the construction, but what about application? Take the Long Haul 2-Up as an example. It has applications for 1984-2007 FXST and FLST models. The Long Haul 2-Up gives the perfect cross between bulky touring seats and slim, lean stylish seats. With a sculpted rider area that offers some back support and a generous passenger area it works for most people. But sometimes you need more and that is where the Long Haul 2-Up XL comes into play. The rider portion of the seat stays the same, but the passenger area is enhanced with a sculpted “pocket” to provide more comfort and a general feeling of security for the person seated on the back of the bike.
Then of course, there are the really stylish seats that Gray makes. The Short Hop Solo pretty much tells the story in the name. Low, sleek and really good-looking, you don’t plan to spend all day on it, but it sure looks great on your bike. Or try the Speed Cradle Solo, designed to support a rider at high speeds. With a shape that pushes the rider forward and down, it locks the rider in place to prevent body input in the wind.
There is probably a Danny Gray seat to meet all of your customers needs, so open up the FatBook and become familiar with the whole lineup.
