The epic dual last fall between Chris Carr in Denis Manning's BUB streamliner versus Rocky Robinson in the Mike Ackatiff "Ack Attack" liner will go down as one of the key events in the history of Land Speed Record racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Looking ahead, that dual is likely to be resumed at this September's International Speed Trials by Bub.
For those who would like to know a little bit more about what has come before the Carr/Robinson era, here's a photo of a single engine Triumph twin that once held the record at Bonneville. Built by Jack Wilson and Stormy Mangham of Big D Cycles in Dallas and piloted by Johnny Allen, the machine set a new American record with a two-way average of 182.45 mph in September of 1955.
