ver find yourself pulled off to the side of some unfamiliar road in the middle of the night trying to read a map and figure out where you need to go, or even where you are? Maps are tough enough to decipher at high noon but with no light, well, it’s an impossible job. Not anymore. Take a look at the Lightforce Helmets from AFX, the FX4 and FX11. With one of these helmets on, all you have to do is flip a switch and all becomes clear. The Lightforce Helmets have built-in map lights.      Ultra-bright LEDs, they’re powered by rechargeable lithium batteries and it’s all part of the helmet. What a concept, huh? And that full-face FX11 carries things even further. The batteries in this helmet also power a pair of turbo cooling fans recessed into the chin bar. Light at night, a cool breeze all day long. What a deal.
All of this is just another example of AFX’s “clean-sheet” approach to helmet design. Ever since entering the market in the mid-‘90s the aim here has been to not only provide full-featured helmets at reasonable prices but also provide features available nowhere else. Like built-in map lights and turbo fans. These aren’t gimmick or novelty helmets, either.      Both the FX4 and FX11 meet and exceed all DOT safety standards, they look good, they’re styled right and there are plenty of colors and graphics to choose from.
Both the FX4 and FX11 are made using an advanced aerodynamic-design shell, constructed from thermoplastic poly-alloy. There are a hypoallergenic and antimicrobial nylon liners and cheek pads, and they’re all removable and washable. There’s a flush-fit, quick-release, single-turn screw face shield with side covers and the shield is optically correct, compound-curved, scratch-resistant and protects against UV-rays. The FX11 can even be converted to a snowmobile helmet with a dual-lens or dual-lens electric shield. There’s a choice of several tinted shields available for both models and the FX4 also features 2-point ventilation with forehead and top vents. The FX11 has those twin turbo fans augmenting its ventilation system.      There’s a Lifetime Warranty on all of this and AFX even puts on a protective clear coat finish to keep the helmet, its paint and its graphics looking good.
And then there’s that whole Lightforce system. Seamlessly integrated into the helmet design, that rechargeable battery–and the charger is included–powers the ultra-bright LED light, and in the FX11 those two high-capacity fans for increased helmet ventilation. It’s an ideal setup, light always there when and where you need it for nighttime utility, and with the FX11 a fan-blown breeze all day long.
How cool is all this? Both the FX4 and FX11 come with some pretty attractive price tags to go along with all these features. The FX11, depending on the color and graphics, has a suggested retail of $141.95 to $149.95. The FX4 comes with an MSRP of $89.95. Both AFX Lightforce models are in stock now at Parts Unlimited.
