f you thought those 1st edition Rinehart Racing exhausts caused a stir, get ready for it again. The latest creation, “Round 2” from Rinehart Racing By Bub, has just been released and the Cross-Back is the most twisted-up custom set of pipes yet. From anyone. And along with the new over-the-top Cross-Back look these are genuine Rineharts, remember. The pipes that spell power. Just like every Rinehart exhaust before them the Cross-Backs can significantly increase torque and horsepower across the board. And they sound great doing it. These custom 2-into-2s feature that Rinehart Racing three-step header design under 220-degree full-coverage heat shields and there are new-design billet end caps topping off the look, too. That’s just the beginning of the feature-list for these newest Rineharts.
The Cross-Back–available for Softail applications right now with systems for the Dynas and Sportsters to follow shortly–comes in two styles. There are Flush- and Staggered Tip configurations and either way there’s a choice of chrome headers, heat shields and mufflers matched with black anodized end caps or black headers and mufflers with chrome heat shields and end caps. Those 2 1/2-inch mufflers, by the way, merge flush with the heat shields for a smooth, unbroken look port to tip. It’s a beautiful system, exactly what you’d expect from Rinehart Racing By Bub. The Rinehart Racing logo is laser-cut into the front heat shield proclaiming that, too.
Good looks and great fits aside the Cross-Back is a performer. In a first from Rinehart and Drag Specialties, the exclusive source for all this, the pipes come supplied with two sets of baffles to ensure optimum performance in every application. There are 2-inch OD baffles for use with engines up to 96 cubic inches and there are a set of 2 1/4-inch baffles also supplied for use when the Cross-Backs are going on larger displacement engines or more heavily modified 95s. This interchangeable baffle option is something brand-new from Rinehart Racing and Drag Specialties. One set of pipes supplied with two sets of baffles to suit all occasions and installations.
And you can make that four sets of baffles now, too. Just announced and so new they’re not yet listed in the catalog, there are two more sets of accessory “Quiet Baffles” available for the Cross-Backs. Noise is an issue these days and Rinehart By Bub has responded responsibly. The Quiet Baffles cut the sound without cutting power or any of that Rinehart tone. There are separate part numbers for the optional baffles. For the Flush Model Cross-Back it’s #1861-0357 and for the Staggereds it’s #1861-0358 and the baffles come in pairs.
Naturally the Cross-Back comes with all required mounting hardware and brackets, and to make late-model installations smooth as silk the systems include O2 sensor ports in the required locations. The Cross-Back is available and in-stock right now for 1986 through 2007 Softails. Systems for Dynas and Sportsters are on the way so stay tuned.
