ince 1980, Mustang Motorcycle Products has proudly handcrafted high quality, comfortable seats and offered them at reasonable prices.
Al Simmons, president and founder, is an engineer by degree and training and has been in the motorcycle industry for over 35 years. Under his leadership, Mustang has grown from a small operation making just a dozen seats a day, to being one of the worldwide leaders in the design and construction of motorcycle seats. Al has traveled to every state and listened to thousands of motorcycle riders. Al’s interaction with motorcyclists, complemented by his years of riding experience, gives him the inside track on seat design.
Mustang motorcycle seats are designed for all-day riding comfort for both the driver and passenger. Every Mustang seat is made in the United States by true craftsmen who take pride in transforming the highest quality, raw materials into a finished product, all under one roof in their New England facility. Plus, Mustang complements their engineering expertise and high-quality manufacturing with first-rate customer service.
Mustang seats are preferred by riders who want comfort, quality and style as well as by dealers who appreciate a company that firmly stands behind their products. Mustang takes pride that dealers around the world can confidently sell Mustang seats that are superior in design, construction, styling and riding comfort to the OEM seats they replace.
Mustang believes that with a well-designed seat there is no reason to be uncomfortable. You should always enjoy your ride, whether it’s five miles or five days. All Mustang seat components are meticulously designed and then hand assembled at their New England plant. The baseplate, foam and cover components combine to make one of the finest, most comfortable seats possible. And Mustang seats will retain their looks for years with no maintenance.

Mustang uses only the highest quality controlled-density, polyurethane foam for all day comfort.

Mustang’s driver backrests can be easily removed or replaced without the use of any tools or the need to remove the seat.

Mustang’s baseplates are carefully designed to align the spine and place the driver at the proper riding angle, thereby relieving back stress. Baseplates for most seats for Harley-Davidson models are formed 16 gauge steel which is black epoxy powder-coated on both sides for complete rust proofing. Baseplates for FLHT/FLHR Ultra, 2006-07 Dyna and 200mm wide tire Softail are made of 3/16-inch thick, marine-grade fiberglass finished in high gloss gel coat. The edges of all baseplates have a steel reinforced, impact absorbing vinyl edge trim to protect the seat cover. Carpet protects fender paint and any exposed brackets are bright chrome plated.
Polyurethane bumpers are strategically located and riveted to the baseplate to prevent it from touching the frame and fender and to minimize vibration.
The most important component of seat comfort is the foam, both the quality of the foam itself and the shape of the mold. With over 26 years of experience, Mustang uses only the very best controlled-density, polyurethane foam for all-day comfort. All foam is compounded and then molded to the correct shape. The foam for each seat is formulated and cast to be soft enough for comfort and resilient enough to stand up to those “thousand-mile” days. Mustang’s high quality foam usually feels firmer than stock but is less firm than other aftermarket seats. There is no “break-in” period. The foam will compress enough to mold itself to the rider’s body shape within about 15 minutes of riding time, every time he rides.
All covers are designed, cut and individually sewn. Covers are made of the highest quality expanded vinyl available. They have the appearance of black leather but offer the durability and resistance to the elements that exceed OEM standards for motorcycle seats. All seams are sewn twice for strength. The bottom edge that holds the cover to the base plate is hemmed. The edges of the seat skirts are finished with braid. Regal styles are tufted with covered buttons, which are double-tied with four cords, not two. Mustang seats will not lose their buttons.
The more you ride, the more you realize that “the most comfortable seat possible” means comfort for your back as well as for your bottom. Nothing takes the fatigue out of riding more than having full back support and being able to effortlessly adjust your lumbar support frequently.
Mustang’s fully adjustable, contoured driver backrests are designed and manufactured to the highest standards to be the most adjustable and most comfortable backrests available. They’re designed to pivot to match the angle of your back and feature a chromed, knurled thumb screw that easily adjusts the tilt angle of the backrest forward or back up to 2-inches while you are seated.
The backrest post is notched allowing four easy “snap-in-place” height adjustment positions. All exposed hardware is chrome-plated for a custom look.
Mustang’s driver backrests are easily removed or replaced without any tools or the need to remove the seat. When the backrest is removed, the receptacle’s slot is covered by a leather flap held tightly with a Velcro closure for a smooth, clean appearance.
When it hurts to ride, it’s not fun anymore, whether for the rider, the passenger or both. A comfortable seat can make every mile pleasurable. A long time ago, Al’s wife Susan was riding on the back of Al’s bike and gave him an ultimatum: “You’re a seat designer, why can’t you make a seat that’s more comfortable for me as the passenger? Do it or ride alone!” Mustang went back to the drawing board for passenger comfort.
About a year later on an all-day ride on a new seat, Al and his wife stopped for gas. As Al stood filling the bike’s tank, he realized that Susan had not even bothered to get off the bike. She was still happily sitting on the passenger seat and talking. Al says her chatting was “music to my ears! I knew that Mustang had designed a truly comfortable seat for both the driver and passenger.”
For over a quarter of a century, Mustang Seats has helped make motorcycle riding more comfortable. A comfortable ride benefits the industry as a whole because when your customers ride more, they buy more. Talk to your Drag Specialties rep for more information about Mustang Seats. |
