The Dead Man’s Hand jacket is based on the Daytona Chassis. The Daytona is one of Icon’s most popular jackets for the V-twin crowd. It makes it easy for dealers to sell by stocking full size runs of the Stealth Daytona, and only bringing in one or two sizes of the Special Ops jackets. That way, a customer can try on the Daytona, get their correct size, and the dealer can then order the Special Ops jacket. The Daytona and Daytona Dead Man’s Hand jacket have tons of built-in features. This jacket features removable CE armor in the shoulders and elbows, a straight cut body, top quality 1.2-1.4MM premium leather, removable full sleeve liner, zippered intake and exhaust vents. One of the best features are the full-length, side expansion vents. These zippered side expansions allow you to fully unzip the side all the way up to give you as much added room as you could possibly want. You know, like when you’ve just finished eating at Taco Tuesday Night and you really did eat all those tacos… What is the significance of the Dead Man’s Hand, you ask? Well, it’s an old Wild West story that has do with Aces and Eights. The story goes that Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the back by Jack McCall while playing poker in the Mann-Lewis Saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, on August 2, 1876. It is said that he was holding the poker hand AA88 when he was shot and as such the hand, in any combination, came to be known as the Dead Man’s Hand. Today, the Deadwood, S.D. saloon is known as the Number 10 Saloon. The Dead Man’s Hand jacket is chock full of tie-ins to this story. It features on the back a full embroidered Skull and Ace. The zipper pull is a Dead Man’s Hand. Inside the right sleeve when you unzip it, is a full color replica Ace card. There is a red satin quilted removable liner, and even a sewn in label that tells the story of Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man’s Hand. So there you have it, the story of the Dead Man’s Hand jacket. Icon knows how to take a simple jacket, and make it something special. By adding the Special Ops embroidery to the Daytona jacket, along with the addition of a numbered plate on the inside of the jacket bottom, Icon has created another masterpiece. The next time you’re in Sturgis, South Dakota, ride on down to Deadwood, and visit the famous Number 10 Saloon, where the legend of the Dead Man’s Hand all began.
