The new third generation FMF Q4.

tate of the Art” is a term that denotes the leading edge of creativity, design, development, and technology. FMF products are made in America where every facet of every product comes in the front door as raw materials and exits as a finished performance product. Every piece is made in the USA, a rarity among manufacturers of any types of products these days. FMF works to constantly improve their products, performance, finish, fit, components and materials; nothing is overlooked in FMF’s quest to be ‘State of the Art’ as portrayed in their latest advertising.
Did you know that since FMF introduced machined aluminum 4.1 mounting brackets two years ago the brackets have undergone slight revisions three times? Each revision was executed for a better look, lighter weight, or improving the ease of mounting for the user. Durability and product integrity are usually not issues at FMF thanks to their 34-plus years of history in the motorcycle industry. They have the know-how and take the time to make items that last. FMF only revises their products because they constantly want to make everything better, because they can and their customers deserve it!
How about muffler packing? FMF’s technicians constantly evaluate and monitor muffler packing as it pertains to their evolving exhausts. FMF is always on the look-out for new material, methods of packing, loft weight and any other way to improve their already ‘State of the Art’ muffler packing. Consider how well made, researched, and developed FMF performance products are if they are so willing to invest so much time, money, and thought into something as seemingly simple as muffler packing.
‘State of the Art’ is also why FMF constantly invests in new machines and processes. Did you know FMF recently installed a complete tubing mill and now actually manufactures their own titanium tubing? This attention to detail in every area is just one of the many things that sets FMF apart from other exhaust manufacturers, and why FMF is an industry leader to this day.
By having all elements of design and production under their control, FMF is beyond a doubt able to deliver ‘State of the Art.’ True performance exhaust certainly includes elements of art, dedication, creativity, alternative approaches, and an open mind when it comes to creating enhanced performance. And in the case of FMF, lots of development and testing time, and being certain of what people want and need.
Many of the new exhaust manufacturers and products that have come onto the scene in the last few years are a result of the expanding four-stroke market. But FMF was already there, with three decades of experience and know-how to back up every new system and machine. As today’s machines become more sophisticated, so too does true performance exhaust have to evolve to be more sophisticated. FMF has what it takes to stay ahead of the development curve and has always been a leader in four-stroke technology.

For 2007, in the ongoing quest for ‘State of the Art,’ FMF’s muffler products for current model machines look different, with revised shapes and graphics. They also sound different–99db or less to meet AMA requirements and the power is even broader and better balanced. Rideability and response is increased due to revolutionary new core, end cap and canister designs and manufacturing methods.
Fitment and ease of mounting are refined via solid mount machined brackets, ergonomic front caps, and additional factory forward engineering. Price point selection for slip-ons is increased with the new Powercore, Speed, Ti Powercore, or 4.1s in natural, anodized or carbon fiber.

Established and widely recognized as the 96db quiet performance exhaust leader since 2001, FMF is now in their third evolution of the Q muffler line–the Q4. As the name implies, developed specifically for today’s new four-stroke machines, the Q4 is not just an existing product with cosmetic revisions and new graphics, it is an entirely new product platform and further addresses the complicated “sound versus power” equation. All versions of FMF Qs are 96db or less, incorporate a spark arrestor and provide the optimal mix of sound and power. Even to the untrained eye, viewing the photos, FMF’s evolution and commitment to weight reduction, fit, finish and performance is evident, and that’s just on the outside! The Q4 is a prime example of FMF’s ‘State of the Art’ sophisticated product for today’s newest and most developed machines.

Performance exhaust is all about flow, from the moment it leaves an engine’s combustion chamber, power and sound is all related to flow. Don Emler and his R&D team look at the whole exhaust picture and while the greatest potential for improvement on a four-stroke can usually be gained from the ‘back end,’ it all begins with the header. The FMF Hi-Flo header was the first step in maximizing this flow through the use of tubing size, materials, and unrestricted, freer flow movement. Hi-Flo headers are available for a number of four wheelers and a number of older motorcycles; and offer great value and durability.
FMF’s innovative and patented Powerbomb further raises the bar. The magic is in the “bomb,” it allows for improved flow of the engine’s power pulses but also utilizes FMF’s Hi-Flo concepts. Providing tractability, torque, increased rideability and up to a 1.5 hp increase, a Powerbomb header can bring that extra refinement in performance to any machine it is installed on. The Powerbomb is offered in weight saving performance titanium or durable stainless steel and is available for all current MX and off-road bikes and for racing and sport quads across a wide range of years.
The Powerbomb technology has not been answered by any other exhaust manufacturer, except FMF themselves. ‘State of the Art’ development does not stop and FMF found a way to produce even more power from the header alone, with the Megabomb. Taking the basic concept of the Powerbomb but with an accent on more, the Megabomb delivers and provides the advantages of shortened exhaust where needed (top end and over-rev) while retaining the benefits of a longer system (low end and torque). Used by many professional race teams including Factory KTM, Team MDK/Xyience and Yamaha of Troy, the Megabomb produces raw power and an increase of up to 3 horsepower while actually slightly reducing sound. The Megabomb is available for all late model MX machines and the latest breed of high performance quads.
