hor dominated X Games 12 with amazing performances from some of their top riders! Thor’s presence at the X Games was highlighted by the Thor Semi set up in the moto paddock, displaying their awesome new 2007 line. Thor also had some of their cool replica bike displays out…Nate Adams bike doing a backflip, Pastrana’s bike doing a whip and Doug Henry’s Supermoto bike on display. They also built a lounge for Thor athletes and VIP’s, which was very cool! The fans received Thor foam fingers for Travis and Nate, and the Thor outdoor theatre showed a live broadcast of the X Games events on their three plasma TVs!
Travis Pastrana was the star of this year’s X Games, winning 3 gold medals! He clinched the first gold on Friday night in the Best Trick competition, when he brought down the house at the Staples Center after landing a picture-perfect double backflip! It was undoubtedly the sickest trick anyone has ever seen, and with it, Travis has forever altered the world of moto freestyle…again! Travis went on to dominate Freestyle with amazing tricks like a Superman Backflip and Lazy-boy Backflip. Then Pastrana beat one of the best rally car drivers in the world by less than a second in an unbelievable finish. Colin McRae was in the lead and rolled his car on the last turn, the car landed back on its wheels and he sprinted to the finish line ending up second to Pastrana.
Thor also won gold with Matt Buyten beating out Jeremy McGrath, Brian Deegan and Tommy Clowers in MX Step Up! It was great to see Buyten win an X Games gold medal!
Thor’s X Games winning streak wasn’t just confined to motorcycles. Thor’s BMX leading man, Ryan Nyquist had an amazing run in BMX Dirt Jump and won the silver medal. Kevin Robinson, who wears a Thor helmet and gloves, pulled off a double flair to win gold in BMX Vert Best Trick and then he won gold on the BMX Big Air Ramp. The Big Air Ramp was truly a sight to see, a towering shaft of gravity that would scare a base jumper, but the Thor BMX riders conquered it with flair.
Thor also put on the best show in Supermoto. Mark Burkhart was in the lead before the mandatory pit stop, but he had some problems in the pit, which handed the lead to Jeff Ward who ended up winning the gold. Burkhart was all over Ward and almost won with a last second pass, but took home the silver for Thor and Graves Yamaha. Doug Henry who also rides for Thor and Graves took the bronze after a mix up with pit timing.
So the medal count for Thor at X Games 12 is: 6 gold; 2 silver; and 1 Bronze. Not a bad week for any company! Thor sponsors riders all over the world and supports motorcycling in all its forms. Congratulations to Thor and their outstanding team of riders!
