he editors at Motorcyclist Magazine figured right. Nothing that there are plenty of excellent street/track hybrid tires out there these days they "kept coming back to the Qualifiers, which to us offer better all-around performance." The go-fast guys at Motorcyclist's sister publication Sport Rider agreed. They picked the Dunlop Qualifier as their number-one choice in their most-recent tire test (December 2005).
High praise ther, but it shouldn't be suprising considering what the Dunlop Qualifier is and what these tires offer. The Dunlop Qualifier, the "Q" is virtually a pure-race tire neatly adapted to the street. It's a worthy successor to the D208ZR Sport Radial in the Dunlop sportbike lineup. The Qualifier delivers real recetrack-level grip and performace in a tire that's perfectly at home on the highways-no easy trick. The pound combines three of Dunlop's race-developed polymers to maximize grip and a warm up quickly, that second attribute especially appreciated in a street application. The Qualifier's race derived profiles allow for lightning quick turn-ins and lighter steering, there are "next-generation" cosecant-curve tread patterns that keep driving and braking forces aligned under cornering and all of this comes with significantly larger footprints at maximum lean angles. Dunlop has even lightened up the Qualifier to reduce unsprung weight. And with all of this the Qualifier's tread life is about equivalent to the familiar D208ZR while delivering a much higher level of performance.
Dunlop is a company long known for bringing its race-tire technologies to the street. With the Qualifier they've done just that. This is a DOT-spec sport bike tire offering racetrack-level performance. At its introduction Dunlop said the Qualifier just might set a whole new standard for ultra-high performance radial tires. Those weren't empty words. Motorcyclist's "Best New Product" award proves that.
The Qualifier elevates al aspects of hyper-performance while maintaining the consistent, predictable, all-weather handling of the D208ZR. The goal was to keep as much race tire performance as possible in an all-weather street tire, seamlessly blending racetrack manners with on-road durability.
Motorcyclist took all of this into account naming the Qualifier "Best New Product." Not best new tire-best new motorcycle product, period. Hyper-performance sportbike riders will love this tire, just like those magazines testers did. The Qualifier are available now offered in front sizes120/60ZR17, 120/70ZR17, 130/70R16 and rear sizes 160/60R17, 170/60R17, 180/55ZR17, 190/50ZR17 and 200/50ZR17.
