upermoto is growing by leaps and bounds. That hybrid dirt/street motorcycle racing that started back in 1979 with a made-for-TV event called “The ABC Superbikers” has become a major draw worldwide. Supermoto appeals to a broad cross-section of fans and riders alike because Supermoto has it all. This is heads-up competition over a variety of different track types all rolled up into one course. A Supermoto is typically 70% pavement, 30% dirt and it’s a true test of man and machine. High-speed pavement slides, stadium-style Supercross jumps, flat-out straightaway sprints…Supermoto has it all.
And now Supermoto has ATVs. NASMOTO (North American Supermoto) and Duro Tire recently announced that ATVs would become part of the action, beginning with the NASMOTO Supermoto Series at Circleville Raceway Park in Circleville, Ohio, that ran the weekend of May 13th. “ATV dirt track and TT riders have been asking for this for years,” says Doug Morris of the All-Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA). In addition to Circleville, ATV Supermoto will compete at four other sites on the NASMOTO Series schedule this year, including the AMA Supermoto Grand Championship at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. And Duro Tire is a big part of it all.
No surprise there. Duro is on the move. The 2006 Duro lineup includes plenty of specialty ATV tires available nowhere else. Duro has become a serious supplier of serious tires, and sponsoring the NASMOTO ATV Supermoto Series was a great step. Duro was right there making sure all this got off on the right foot, too. Top ATV riders Shane Hitt, Zac Willett and Jerry Boling helped NASMOTO set up a track for that inaugural ATV Supermoto in Ohio, and Duro Tire helped Hitt, Willett and Boling analyze and refine that track to get the best mix of speed sections and passing zones all the while making sure there were multiple line selections available to the racers.
Of course all that testing and tuning took place on Duro tires. Tires like the Duro Scorcher. This one, if you haven’t noticed, is a pretty special ATV tire. The Scorcher was designed, developed and constructed especially for hard-pack and asphalt-surface racing situations. There’s nothing else like it anywhere. The Scorcher’s extra-large tread blocks provide the maximum contact patch with maximum traction and this tire really digs in to rocket through the corners. There are deep directional grooves for great water evacuation, too, so wet track or dry the Duro Scorcher gets the job done. This tire, like everything from Duro, is available in a variety of sizes so there’s one for every application.
The 2006 NASMOTO Supermoto Series has nine stops scheduled, everywhere from Florida to California. ATVs–and Duro Tire–will be at five of them. Duro is putting together a rider-support program, too. Supermoto just might be the future of powersport racing. Supermotos can run at kart tracks, at stock car ovals, on city streets and even in paved parking lots if they’re big enough. Opening all this up to include the Sport Quads is the best thing to hit the ATV market in years and Duro Tire is right there in the thick of it. Take a look at what Duro’s offering–and not just for Supermoto. You’ll be pleasantly surprised, and Parts Unlimited carries it all.
