o bike stays stock for long. It’s all about making it personal, tricking out the ride to make it your own. Only how personal can it be when you pull up to a stoplight after bolting on a whole host of accessory parts only to see the same parts on the bike in the next lane? And see it all again on the bike across the intersection? Talk about taking the wind out of your sails.
Pro-One’s new Modular Design lineup of bolt-ons will cure that identity crisis fast. With these new mix-and-match bolt-ons you’re the one creating the look, and it can be a look that’s all your own. How all this works is pretty simple, and it’s ingenious.
First of all, the Pro-One Modular Design lineup covers it all. There are Derby Covers here, Gas-Cap Covers, Primary Inspection Covers, Point Covers, Coil Covers, Belt-Drive Covers and there are even Hydraulic Clutches available. There’s even a choice of matching One-Piece Gas Tank Panels for the Softails and Road Kings and, while not exactly Modular, those Tank Panels are offered in the same finishes and design patterns as everything else to complete the look and tie things together. Now, here’s how it all works…
Take those Modular Design Derby Covers. Like everything else in the lineup they’re two-piece, hence “modular.” They’re made up with a baseplate and a removable insert. Each of those pieces is available with either a bright chrome or a black anodized finish, and there’s a selection of half-a-dozen insert designs to go with that base. Those inserts, in both finishes, black and chrome, are available with a Smooth, Ball-Milled, Flamed, Spiderweb, Iron Cross or Skull design. Beginning to see the possibilities? You can mix and match all of this to come up with a Derby Cover that’s truly your own. You can make up a Derby Cover, for example, using a chrome baseplate and then add a black Iron Cross insert, or you can make it just the opposite, starting with a black anodized baseplate and accent it with a bright chrome insert, maybe Spiderweb. Or you can go totally chrome or totally black anodized. Once you’ve picked your own personal look you can carry it all through the bike, even onto the gas tank with those matching Tank Panels for the Softails and Road Kings. Pretty neat, huh?
From a dealer’s standpoint stocking all this is pretty easy, and definitely rewarding. Keep just a couple of the main baseplates for all the covers in stock in both Chrome and Anodized Black along with a selection of the inserts in both finishes and it’s like you have a whole warehouse full of bolt-on accessories on your shelf. You’ve got everything needed to put together any look and style you want, and incidentally those inserts are significantly less expensive than the baseplates so it’s no inventory hardship.
All of this is just a sampling of what Pro-One has new for 2006, and what will be available through Drag Specialties. In all, Drag Specialties has added close to 200 new part numbers from Pro-One this year, so there’s plenty more in the “Modular Design” series to come. Stay tuned. But in the meantime stock in what’s available now. No bike keeps its factory look for long, and with Pro-One, finally, those bolt-ons can be truly personalized.
