Did you ever wonder what became of the famous “woodshed” that served as Harley-Davidson's first factory?
Originally located in the backyard of the Davidson family in Milwaukee, the shed was moved in about 1906 a few blocks to where the Harley-Davidson Motor Company headquarters exists today. As Harley-Davidson grew and the brick building replaced it and others, the original shed found a place on the property as a reminder of the company’s roots. As seen in the photo, the shed was well cared for and seemingly out of harm’s way.
Sadly, when AMF took over the company in the 1970s, an order to clean up the grounds was reportedly misinterpreted by someone and the old shed was simply torn down and disposed of. A true piece of motorcycling history lost to the ages.
