 oday’s riders, sport riders especially, know what they want. They know all about the bikes they ride and the gear they wear. Helmets included. These are pretty savvy customers, generally experienced, and when they go shopping for a new helmet they head straight for it, right to the good stuff at the top of the shelf. These riders know the difference between a $100 or $150 helmet and a really good one, which is the first thing they’ll pull down off the rack and try on. They’ll love that top-line helmet, too, but faced with a sticker price of $600 or $700 many times they’ll do a double take. They’ll come in fully prepared to spend $350 or $400, not $700, so they’ll take a deep breath and make a compromise. The Baby Blue and Pink graphics on some versions of the Stealth look fantastic, and more importantly, they look fantastic to women. For the last few years the female market has seen huge growth gains in the motorcycle world. Finally, here’s a quality, high-end helmet that can appeal to that market. Also take note of the sizing for the Stealth; it starts at X-Small, also to accommodate females. This latest mid-priced helmet model from AGV will find plenty of appeal, for both men and women riders. It even includes some features not offered in the Ti-Tech, if you can believe that. In some areas you’re actually getting more for less with the Stealth. The ventilation system, for instance. AGV is constantly making design improvements as they go, incorporating what’s learned from one helmet into the next. Well, that top-of-the-line Ti-Tech came first, with its massive front vents. AGV realized they could make those already big vents even bigger, and that’s exactly what’s been done here. The result? The Stealth just might be the best venting, most comfortable helmet in its price class, or in any price class for that matter. AGV chose the BSI rating system feeling that it’s a more consistent method of helmet evaluation. The BSI testing procedures are based on the most recent, reliable and realistic data, which AGV feels is more consistent with real life on real world roads. Additionally, BSI testing requires that a certain percentage of every production batch of helmets be tested, not just the first helmet made in a new design with the assumption that every helmet made in that style thereafter will be consistently the same. That’s not always the case, and with the BSI standard employed if even one of those sample helmets fails testing then that entire production batch fails. That has to be plenty tough on AGV, but it’s great from a consumer standpoint. It means every helmet produced is certified up to date and certified up to safety standards. Of course, the AGV helmets are D.O.T. approved, as well. So go ahead and put the new AGV Stealth right up there on that top shelf. It belongs there, right alongside the Ti-Tech and the XR2. Granted, it might not have all the flash and bling of those titanium vent screens in the Ti-Tech and that helmet’s ultra-high-end DuPont CoolMax interior, but it’s got just about everything else.
