With the Buell organization putting forth a serious effort at Daytona this
year with its new XBRR production race bike, some of you may have wondered
who the last rider was to win the prestigious Daytona 200 on a Harley-Davidson-powered
motorcycle? The answer is Cal Rayborn. The late-great Harley-Davidson
factory star from San Diego, California won the race twice actually.
His first win in 1968 was a complete romp as he lapped every rider
in the field at least once. He came back to repeat in 1969 and to date,
that stands as the last win there for a Harley-Davidson or Buell.
