’ve
written in this column in the past about all the interesting V-Twin
people we get to feature in our magazine. That’s something
that isn’t going to be changing any time soon.
Right there on our front cover this month is the photo of Arlen Ness
straddling one of his Avon-shod Ness Motorcycles. Our cover story in
this issue is actually about Avon Tires, but they really wanted to
make sure we included Arlen in it. He has, after all, been using Avon
tires for many years and has had a lot to do with the success and development
of their tire line for Harleys and other big twins. Be sure to see
page __ with the “5 of Arlen’s Best” pictorial. That,
plus our Q&A with him gives a pretty quick, but interesting look
at the man’s legendary career.
Okay, so who else do we have? For starters there are two of Drag Specialties’ sales
reps Kenny Caves and Stephanie Feld, both bonafide Harley enthusiasts
with more than one V-twin in their garages. We’ve got a look
at Brian Klock of Klock Werks, as well the guys at Dakota Digital,
Custom Valley and Kuryakyn. These companies are pumping out new ideas
and products for the Harley and V-twin market 24/7.
You say you’re looking for builders and tuners? Check out Part
II of our tuning series with Wayne Hanson of Speeds Performance. Not
everyone can make good sense of all the many choices there are today
when it comes to performance upgrades…but Wayne can. And Kendall
Johnson can too. The main story on his new custom speed racer is a
few months off, but we’ll give you a little teaser of the project
in this issue to hold you over.
And finally, with all this great product on the market, we take a look
at some companies that have signed on to build bikes featuring products
from the Drag Specialties FatBook catalog. Rucker Performance, Dave
Davies and Gerry Jackman all have the know-how and facilities to build
some top notch custom machines and they are a great addition to the
Drag Specialties team.
In the months to come, watch for even more about the people that make
this industry what it is. In the meantime, ride often and ride safe.
