ll the horsepower in the world won’t mean a thing if you can’t put it to use, and putting V-twin power to use is exactly what the Barnett Scorpion “Lock-Up” Clutch is all about.
A lock-up clutch is technology straight from the drag strip. Simply put, the faster it’s turned the tighter a lock-up clutch grips. A lock-up clutch is almost infinitely adjustable, too. Various coil spring sets are available to provide maximum tuning capability right off the bat, and that’s followed up with adjustable pressure arms that increase spring pressure as the RPMs rise. It’s a perfect combination. The lever pull can be nice and light, yet at the top-end that clutch is grabbing as tight as a 10-ton gorilla.
The Scorpion Lock-Up Clutch offers all those features. Compared to OE, there’s a 100-percent increase in clutch capacity here, and the Scorpion Lock-Up can be run wet or dry. The Scorpion Lock-Up is designed to fit in stock-type clutch baskets, and because it’s crafted with a billet aluminum pressure plate and a steel inner hub it’s tough as nails. There are applications for Big Twins from 1936 to 2006 and Scorpion Lock-Up pressure plates are available as a retro-fit for current non-lock up Scorpion clutches.
The Barnett Big Twin Primary Cover, available chrome plated or highly polished, is the perfect complement to all this. It allows the use of that Scorpion Lock-Up Clutch in an enclosed primary and the Barnett Primary Cover is maintenance friendly. These covers feature an oversize derby to make clutch-plate installation/removal and lock-up tuning quick and easy without having to remove the entire cover.
Barnett’s new 3-inch Belt Drive System combines it all–appearance and function. These belt drives are designed around that Scorpion Lock-Up Clutch assembly for the ultimate street or strip clutch assembly and primary drive. Kits are available for 1990 and newer Softails and they’re offered with or without an outside bearing support.
The Scorpion Lock-Up Clutch, Scorpion Primary Cover and Scorpion Lock-Up Clutch/3-inch Belt Drive Systems are all available right now. Drag Specialties has them in stock, so call your rep today.
