Cycle Park was host for some of the best amateur racers in the world
to show their talents at the 34th Annual Thor Winter National Olympics
presented by Pro Circuit. Great weather and great track conditions are
an absolute luxury in Gainesville, Florida in late November; and none
of the 4,300-plus people in attendance at this year’s event were
complaining.Monday brought on the start of practice and qualifiers for Supercross and officially began the week. Right away members of the Thor Amateur Team stole the show. Matt Boni and Nico Izzi showed their usual speed, setting ridiculous paces and showing the rest of the field what it was going to take to win. Some of our other riders who came in a little more under the radar but definitely raised a few eyebrows were Broc Tickle, Jimmy Albertson, Terren O’Dell, and Phil Nicoletti (who surprised everyone with his ability to put down some unreal lap times and even put together a few wins, despite riding with a broken kneecap!) Tuesday and Wednesday concluded Supercross racing and it was time to crown the “indoor” national champions. 2005’s Thor National Indoor Champions included Broc Tickle (x2), Nico Izzi (x2), Matt Tedder, Myles Tedder, Terren O’Dell, Jessy Nelson (x2), Nick Gaines (x2), Matt Boni (x2), and Walker Brightwell. As a whole, Thor’s Amateur Team brought home 14 of 35 Supercross Titles! Thor riders taking Supercross silver and bronze honors were Matt Boni, Terren O’Dell, Jessy Nelson, Jimmy Albertson, Justin Weeks, Ty Worthington, Justin Starling, Phil Nicoletti, Michael Maze, Damon Fiore, Corey Slavik, Matt Tedder, and Matt Lemoine. Friday and Saturday concluded the Motocross racing and closed another successful year for everyone at the Winter National Olympics. The Thor riders took to the Motocross track much in the same way that they took to the Supercross track…in dominating fashion, bringing home ten more championships. Such champions included Bradley Graham, Matt Tedder, Myles Tedder, Terren O’Dell (x2), Jimmy Albertson (x2), Nico Izzi, Matt Boni, and Jessy Nelson. Also bringing in Motocross silver and bronze awards were Alex Viquez, Broc Tickle, Nico Izzi, Terren O’Dell, Brandon Mays, Matt Burkeen, Bradley Graham, Justin Weeks, Matt Tedder, PJ Larsen, Nick Gaines, Ty Worthington, Zach Miller, and John Grewe. In addition to Thor’s presence on the track with so many great champions, the Thor semi was in attendance all week providing support for their riders, converting to a movie theatre in the evenings to entertain hundreds with Travis and the Nitro Circus, feeding nearly 1,500 hungry people Thanksgiving dinner and generally giving back to the sport that they love so much.
