Metzeler’s new Sportec M3 supersport tire is a high performance tire designed to combine the best characteristics from both street and track tires. With its increased grip, great wet-weather traction and significantly improved wear rate, the Sportec M3 is sure to be a top choice amongst both your street and track riding customers.

he latest performance news from Metzeler is the introduction of its new Sportec M3 supersport tire. The Metzeler Sportec M3 takes high performance to an innovative level with its increased grip, improved wet-weather traction, enhanced feedback, and higher mileage. The new M3 has the sporting benefits of a track tire with the feel and reliability of a street tire.
The Sportec M3’s design secret is its shrewd balance of the four factors defining a tire’s performance: compound, profile, tread pattern and zero-degree steel radial belting.
The front and rear Sportec M3’s have differential compounds, developed to fulfill the individual needs at each end of a motorcycle for accelerating, braking and cornering. Dry grip has been significantly enhanced through compounds and steel belting that resist overheating while providing quicker warm-up. This gives riders security in knowing high-grip comes on faster than ever while the self-limiting heating of the tires ensures predictable performance through the tires’ daily life. At the same time, Metzeler’s new DuraSil compound gives the M3 wet grip that is incomparable to previous generations of Supersport-style tires.
The profiles of the front and rear Sportec M3s have unique, dedicated shapes, each using multi-radius technology. Additionally, the M3’s sidewalls resist deformation for consistent, optimal contact patches. The M3’s profiles deliver progressive cornering behavior with predictable feedback and a compliant feel for gauging grip limit during aggressive riding.
The land/sea ratio of the Sportec M3’s tread patterns result in maximum dry traction with optimal wet performance. The front M3 has no central, linear groove, giving stability on rain grooves, steel bridges, and road seams while the side grooves channel water away from the contact patch.
Zero-degree steel/fiber belting give the Sportec M3 a carcass uniquely suited to high feedback and predictable stability. Metzeler’s exclusive zero-degree radial belting has newly designed winding spacing on the front and rear M3s, providing riders a lighter, faster, steering feel with improved feedback.
Considering the huge improvements in the supersport performance, feel and grip of the new Sportec M3, it’s shocking how the tires are also endowed with an unbelievable 50% increase in mileage. Metzeler considered not mentioning the significantly improved wear rate of the Sportec M3 tires fearing that performance riders would find it difficult to believe a performance tire of this level could also provide reliable grip for such an extended life. But it’s all true so bragging about all the Sportec M3’s ability was the only way to go.
Although the Sportec M3s perform at a level pleasing to aggressive track riders, Metzeler wants to assure street-riding supersport enthusiasts that the M3 is a street tire. Riders demanding more than 27 laps of predictable traction and feel will be astounded by the performance of the new Metzeler Sportec M3. Call your Parts Unlimited rep for more details.
