Founded in 1990, the Akrapovic Company is based on Igor Akrapovic’s experience tuning motorcycles, which he gained during his successful racing career. In 1993, private racing teams competing in the PRO Superbike Championship become the first to test Akrapovic exhaust systems. This is followed by numerous individual victories as well as championship titles in the PRO Superbike class. By 1997, they were ready to invest into advanced technology, which led to the Kawasaki Factory becoming the first World Superbike Championship team to use Akrapovic exhaust systems. By 1999 every single Japanese team in the world SBK championship used Akrapovic exhaust systems and Akrapovic began their own production of titanium tubing. In 2000, Colin Edwards took Akrapovic’s first World Championship title in the 2000 SBK Series. More racing success followed and in 2002 Akrapovic entered the MotoGP and the Off-Road racing scene with more great results. By 2005, they had accrued 22 World Championship titles in different classes and two successive AMA Supersport Championships with Tommy Hayden and the Kawasaki Racing team. The state-of-the-art equipped company and facilities employs around 230 highly qualified and motivated employees with various levels of education. Products are characterized by modern production processes such as hydroforming, CNC processing, tube production & bending, deep drawing and sand blasting, and state-of-the-art materials–inconel, titanium, aluminum, stainless steel and components made of carbon and kevlar fiber. With everything in place Akrapovic can offer bolt-on and slip-on products for Street, Off-Road, ATV, and all forms of racing. For 2006 the Akrapovic Company has added a new type of muffler to its line of exhaust systems, designed for the road. They named it the “Hexagonal” shaped muffler. The new design is substantially different from anything offered up to the present, with a sharper look, which reflects design trends which have been appearing recently in the automotive field. The new muffler design is based on the use of carbon fiber. Particular attention should be paid to the smooth transition from the six-sided canister to the four-sided outlet cap. This aspect and the diamond-shaped conical form of the carbon-fiber outlet cap are the defining features of the look of the new muffler, referred to unabashedly as “bold elegance.” The design priorities ensure maximum increases of power and torque, with appropriate noise reduction. The outlet cap interior is formed using the hydroforming process. With its recognizable new design, the new type of muffler offers a successful combination of development experience and the newest trends in the motorcycle market. The Akrapovic Hexagonal exhaust system as well as the full line of street, Off-Road and ATV exhaust products are now available through Parts Unlimited. Talk to your Parts rep today to learn more. |
