By Don Emde

There was nothing my dad, Floyd Emde, loved more than motorcycle racing. He had raced professionally since before World War II, but his biggest moment came in 1948 when he led from flag to flag to win the Daytona 200. His win on an Indian Sport Scout made him an obvious favorite with the management of the Indian Motocycle Company. Not long after his victory, a representative from Indian arranged for Floyd to invest his $2,000 Daytona race winnings into an Indian franchise in the San Diego area. This was the start of a multi-store motorcycle retail career that lasted almost thirty years selling Indian, Harley-Davidson, BSA, Triumph, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Bultaco and other brands.
