ixteen years ago the folks at T-Bags looked around and realized there just wasn’t any good way to pack touring gear on a cruiser bike. That changed forever with the first T-Bags “slip over the backrest” bag, a patented luggage design that easily converted any cruiser bike into a long-distance tourer. The T-Bags not only mounted easily, they looked good and they delivered the goods–literally. Today, working out of a 20,000 square foot facility in Costa Mesa, California, T-Bags has a luggage lineup that’s the envy of the industry. It includes everything from the smallest daypacks and saddle rolls to expandable luggage with enough pockets, pouches, zippered compartments and overall capacity to sustain a rider for weeks on the road. And all of it, from those smallest bags to the largest, even to the T-Bags sporting wheels and retractable handles to make rolling that luggage into the motel room just as easy as it was putting it on the bike, all of it mounts in that safe, secure, unique and just about unnoticeable T-Bags “slip over the backrest” style.
As the T-Bags offerings and options expanded over the years (today there’s even a “Biker’s Briefcase” for a laptop computer!) the slip-over mounting system common to all the bags has grown and changed with the times, too. There’s the original “bike specific” mounting system. It was designed for maximum stability with specific sized slip-over backrest pockets made to fit the most popular backrest and luggage rack configurations. The “bike specific” mounting system graduated to a much more versatile Universal Mounting System using a series of adjustable Velcro® straps to accommodate backrests up to 12-inchs wide. And now with the Universal Expandable Zipper Mounting System T-Bags boasts the best of both worlds with an expandable pocket sleeve that fits backrests up to 14-inches wide. Whatever system is chosen, though, the mounting drill is the same: you just slip the bag over the backrest until it’s firmly resting on the luggage rack then hook on the tie-down straps. Done. In most cases that packed bag can also be turned around to rest on the passenger seat and become a great backrest for solo riding.
All those mounting options wouldn’t mean a thing, however, if the bags themselves weren’t up to the job and didn’t have the capacity required. That’s not even a question here. T-Bags are tough and they’re built to carry the load. T-Bags are made with top-quality UV treated 1680 Denier Nylon, with some models even available in genuine leather. There are tough YKK zippers and security straps with quick-release buckles, there are fold-away bungee-style rain and dust covers permanently attached, the expandable models open up from a convenient daypack size to a cavernous 2-cubic-foot capacity and the rigid models have heavy-duty plastic liners allowing the bags to keep their shape. Factor in all the easily accessed pockets and pouches and travel organizers galore and you have motorcycle luggage suitable for all occasions.
Each and every T-Bag, from the smallest “Switchback” dayroll that’s a perfect addition to a lean-and-mean chopper to one of those go-anywhere Expandables like the “Tahoe,” “Convertible 4” or “Super T4,” were designed by bikers for bikers. Empty or full, a T-Bag looks great on the bike and every model and size works just as good as it looks. Sixteen years ago there was no elegant way to pack gear on a cruiser. T-Bags solved that problem, and Drag Specialties carries it all. Take a look in the FatBook, it’s all there.
