Have you checked out Crane Cam’s new Fireball HI-4TC ignition module yet? The HI-4TC is available for all 2004 and later carbureted Harleys, and plugs right into the OE 12-pin connector to work seamlessly with the latest SAEJ1850 data bus. This allows for easy adjustments to the ignition system on a carbureted Harley, and the HI-4TC offers a wide range of features and allows for full use of the Harley-Davidson factory scan tools. Check it out…
n 2004 the game changed. Harley-Davidson switched to the SAE J1850 data bus for all the electronic communications throughout the motorcycle. The J1850 data bus links together the ignition module, the instrument cluster, the turn signal/security module and the diagnostic scan tools and ports. Those newest Harleys also use a non-adjustable crankshaft-position sensor making ignition timing no longer mechanically possible. What does all this mean? Change any one of those components for something not compatible and you’ve just lost something else–like the instruments or the turn signals, for instance.
Not with Crane’s Fireball HI-4TC ignition module. It plugs right into the OE 12-pin connector (and, yes, even that connector configuration is new) to seamlessly work with that latest SAE J1850 data bus and allow easy and virtually limitless adjustments for the ignition system on a carbureted Harley. The HI-4TC circuitry is housed in a low-profile billet aluminum case with all the adjustment switches right on the top for easy access, a real advantage in most installations. And the HI-4TC offers a wide range of adjustments and features, everything from the ability to set optimal ignition timing and advance curves for stock engines and highly modified ones, as well, to downloadable data logging that lets you know what’s happening throughout the engine and when.
The HI-4TC’s four rotary switches allow quick adjustment to the initial timing, the advance slope and the RPM limiter. An optional PC link cable plugs right into the bike’s diagnostic port and, coupled with the HI-4TC’s Windows-compatible software, allows those adjustments to be taken even further. With a laptop PC and Crane’s intuitive software custom advance curves can be created for precise ignition timing throughout an engine’s operating range, everywhere from startup to redline. And there’s that built-in data logging function. It stores a wide variety of data from the last 30 minutes of engine operation, including the RPM, the bike’s road speed, the manifold pressure, the ignition advance and even the battery voltage. That alone is a great diagnostic and tuning tool, and with the PC link all that data is right there to see. There’s also a speedometer/odometer recalibration function here, extremely useful after gear- or tire-size change. And at its core the HI-4TC is fully compatible with and supports that new J1850 data bus. The bike’s instruments, turn signals and security system all function as stock. The Fireball HI-4TC allows full and unencumbered use of the Harley-Davidson factory scan tools, too.
Crane’s Fireball HI-4TC is available for all 2004 and later carbureted Harley-Davidsons. The game might have changed, but with Crane’s fully adjustable HI-4TC ignition module, it’s changed for the better! Drag Specialties has it in stock and ready to go.
