iston sales aren't made just to correct some catastrophic calamity like a blown engine, not anymore, and pistons aren't sold just to get worn-out bikes from the '70s or '80s back into the game. These days, new pistons are sold to guys with brand-new bikes. How many TC 88s stay that way for long? Those 95-inch kits are almost the norm, and that's a swap made on Harleys with zero mileage showing on the odometer. So yeah, you're being asked about pistons a lot lately. Want to know the easy answer, the one answer that'll assure your customers a great set of pistons? It's Wiseco.
Every piston Wiseco makes is forged aluminum, and every one is produced on Wiseco-built and Wiseco-designed tooling. Wiseco is the only aftermarket piston manufacturer in the entire country doing this, using its own tool-and-die equipment. Wiseco has the largest inventory of purpose-built forging tools available, and they're continually introducing new designs. They'll come up with 100 or more new, state-of-the-art forging tools every year giving this all-American company the capability to produce leading edge forged pistons with the highest strength- to-weight ratio available. It also means Wiseco is first to market with the latest performance designs, exactly what you need for those big-bore customers.
And Wiseco has all the popular big-bore kits. There are big-bore pistons for those Twin Cams, turning them into powerhouse 95-inchers, and the Wiseco kit for the Sportster 883 transforms that entry-level XL into a rocket ship 1200. Easily, too. Even though those Sportster pistons are a full 1/2-inch larger in diameter than the 883 pistons they replace, their weight is virtually identical to the stock part. No re-balancing required. All those big-bore pistons are offered with a choice of compression ratios, either 9:1 or 10.5:1, and that's for both the Twin Cam 95 and Sportster 883-to-1200 conversion. The kits come complete with rings, pins, clips and instructions.
But big-bore or OE replacement, every Wiseco piston is designed to install without any engine re-balancing. That's a big point, especially with those pressed together late-model Harley crankpins and flywheels. And every Wiseco piston is a real upgrade. It's a forged piston, way better than any cast part, and the advantages begin with the forging process itself. Forging produces what's known as a "directional alignment" of the metal molecules. This forged molecular grain flow results in an exceedingly high degree of strength, increased ductility and a real improvement in a piston's resistance to impact and fatigue. Every Wiseco piston is heat treated in-house by Wiseco to the most exacting specifications, too. All this adds up to the material strength and toughness Wiseco pistons are famous for.
And right along with those big-bore kits Wiseco has all the replacement pistons you'll need. Catastrophic calamities do happen, and Wiseco has forged-aluminum Harley-Davidson replacement pistons with applications going back to 1948. Wiseco's forged pistons are available as stock replacements in all the standard OE sizes and in over-bore sizes for rebuilds, everything from .005-over to .080-over depending on the application. Every one of these piston sets comes complete, too; rings, wrist pins and wrist-pin clips included.
So next time you're asked, and it might even be today, tell that customer about Wiseco. Forged pistons are the smart choice, and when it comes to forged pistons there's one name that stands out. Wiseco - and it's all available directly through Drag Specialties. Call your rep today.
