It's the FatBook's first-ever 'bobber and it's a beauty. Front to back we're looking at over-the-counter catalog parts, flavored and spiced to taste. Check out that rear fender support and the axle spinners. Details like these lift a bike out of the ordinary.

Clean and simple is the key when you're picking parts for a 'bobber, and Nick Genender had plenty of FatBook choices to fit that bill. To light the way he settled on a Drag/Ness 5 3/4-inch headlight set on an Arlen Ness Extended Headlight Mount. The shape and size work perfectly.
ikes like this don't happen by accident. Everyone at Drag Specialties is an enthusiast, a rider and definitely in tune with what's going on out on the street. That's why the FatBook gets filled with all those good parts the hardware people want and need. It's how bikes like this retro 'bobber end up being built, too. If it's new and if it's hot the folks at Drag Specialties know about it, and more than that, do something about it.
Jeff Fuller is one of those Drag Specialties guys. He works in the tech/products department at Drag's Minneapolis office. Well aware of the growing popularity of stripped-down 'bobbers, Jeff thought it was high time that a bike reflecting this nationwide craze make it into the FatBook. The parts to put together a great one were already there, and Jeff knew just the guy to do that putting together. Since opening his doors in 2000, Nick Genender at NYC Choppers has made a specialty out of just this kind of bike, and with lots of NYC Choppers parts already in the FatBook that Manhattan shop was a natural. Nick didn't have to be asked twice. Given the opportunity he ran with it, big time.
"And I think we came up with something pretty cool," Nick feels. No kidding. As always, the build-sheet called for parts straight out of the Drag Specialties warehouse, and they're all here. So is that unmistakable NYC Choppers identity. "The guys at Drag pretty much left the look and feel up to me," Nick goes on. "Their only instructions," he says, "were to keep it in my genre, and of course keep the parts selection to the FatBook." In that mix Nick was asked to include lots of his signature Iron Cross accessories, "And I did," he says. "But I didn't go overboard. I kept it sensible. I think the bike is tastefully done because we didnÕt push the envelope in any one area, just nicely stuffed it."
A Chopper Guys rigid frame turned out to be a great base for a 'bobber. The perfect size and shape. To complete the look Nick and his guys cut up an Independent Bobber tank, "channeling it a little deeper and taking about 2 inches out of the middle to slim it down." A Wernimont rear fender also went under the NYC knife, and an oval-shape NYC Iron Cross Oil Tank rounded out the tin selection. Nick chose a 93-inch S&S Shovelhead to power the 'bobber, "the newest, freshest motor on the market," he feels. "That's one hot little twin, and great looking!" It's backed up with a 6-speed kicker from Baker, tied on with a BDL 3-inch Electric Start Belt Drive System. And so far everything we've mentioned came straight from the FatBook, including plenty of those asked-for NYC Choppers bits. The front end, the handlebar risers, the seat, that oil tank, the pegs, the shifter, the fender strut, the front brake rotor, the point cover, the air cleaner, the kicker pedal, the gas cap (cool, isn't it?), the axle covers and the mirrors are all straight out of Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Some of those parts were developed just for this bike, and seeing how cool they were Drag Specialties snapped them up, things like that NYC Springer front end and the NYC solo seat.
Now, with every FatBook bike the builder gets some leeway and Nick took it. The pipes, for instance. They were custom made just for this application. "The guys at Drag probably weren't thrilled about that," Nick joked. "They'd probably prefer that I used something out of the catalog. But, hey, it's a custom. You gotta get creative somewhere, right!"
We'd say Nick Genender and the guys from Hell's Kitchen (NYC Choppers is on West 53rd, between 10th and 11th) got plenty creative. And Drag Specialties got another great motorcycle to show off whatÕs possible building almost exclusively out of the FatBook. WeÕve said it before and it bears repeating. Whatever style custom you want, the parts for it are in that giant catalog and just a phone call away.

Cool looking from any angle, a skinny Drag Specialties 21 x 2.15 40-Spoke Rim and Avon MH90-21 Venom lead the way. They're spinning in an NYC Choppers Springer Fork, new to the FatBook. A Hawg Halters 4-Piston Caliper slows things down and Flanders 883 Type Handlebars in NYC Risers do the steering.

More of those details. That's an NYC Choppers Iron Cross Grip, and that's a theme sprinkled throughout the build. The guys from New York used restraint, though, avoiding too much of a good thing.

That's a GMA 5/8-in. Handlebar Master Cylinder. Smooth and tasty, it blends right in. Continuing the Iron Cross motif, that's an NYC Choppers mirror. The throttle cable came straight from the Drag Specialties catalog.

Flavor and spice. Check out that NYC Choppers Iron Cross rotor, a little detail adding a lot of style. Nick opted to powder coat the rims and keep the bright stuff to a minimum. Hey, it's a 'bobber!

(Top) A cut-down Russ Wernimont rear fender tops another powder coated Drag Specialties 40-Spoke rim, this one a 5.50 x 16. A set of Drag Specialties Chrome Spokes adds the flash and that Avon 150/80-16 Venom is just big enough.

An NYC Choppers Spinner Gas Cap puts added style on top of the Independent Cycle Bobber Tank, modified just a bit. More than a bit, actually. It's been severely cut and reshaped.

That's a BDL 3-in. Electric Start Belt Drive System hooking together a polished Baker 6-Speed Shovelhead-Style Transmission and, what else, an S&S 93-in. Hi-Compression Shovelhead Motor. Great picks for a 'bobber.

Check out the sculpting job on the bottom of the tank, neatly making clearance for the NYC Choppers jockey shift. That "Flaming Ace Pinup" artwork is pretty nice, too.

Good looking lines, and it's all from the FatBook. Beginning with a Chopper Guys Rigid Frame. The NYC Choppers Oval Oil Tank and Solo Seat work perfectly, the pipes are one-offs.

While that S&S Shovelhead dominates the picture it's getting lots of FatBook support. The 'bobber build included a GMA Billet Rear Master Cylinder and an HHI Rear Rotor/Sprocket and Driveside Caliper Kit.

This one's wicked skinny, just like a 'bobber should be. The low-mount handlebars look good, too. Nice touch.

Keeping things legal, thatÕs a Jim Nasi LED Sidemount License Plate Mount. All catalog stuff.

The Avon 150 looks big, but that's because the rest of the bike is so small, so tight and so tidy.

Slick looking, isn't it? All this is clean as a whistle, custom perfect and straight from the FatBook catalog.
