lean,
no-nonsense bikes are where it's at. Retro cool is in, and if
you need proof look no further than the Harley dealerships, the magazines,
the shows - and even the latest FatBook custom featured in this very
issue! And when it comes to some of the most critical components for
those "old is new again" bikes, the brake calipers, the
hand- and foot controls and all those accessories that make or break
the build, Jay Brainard has been supplying
it for more than two decades. Drag Specialties lists more than 100 part
numbers from Jaybrake, one of the oldest and most established companies
in the industry. Builders thinking quality think Jaybrake, and have for
years.
In 1992 all that got even better when Jay Brainard
partnered with Horshel Brothers Precision (HBP), a world-renowned manufacturer
of precision machine parts. With a solid 20-year manufacturing history HBP
was a natural to make everything Jay designed, and Jay knows what savvy bikers
want. Two decades of working with the likes of Arlen and Cory Ness, Dave Perewitz
and Donny Smith and designing custom brakes for custom bikes belonging
to guys like Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and actors Brian Bosworth ("Stone
Cold") and Mickey Rourke ("Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro
Man") have made Jaybrake a household name.
Don't get the idea that Jaybrake is mired in
the past, though. Far from it. There's plenty of contemporary design at work
here and more of it's coming on line all the time. Just this year Jaybrake
actually merged with HBP, forming Jaybrake By Horshel Motorsports, and
this new team is poised for an exciting future. Evidence of this comes
in the brand new bike designed and built by Jay and Karl Horshel and
debuted at Sturgis. A wickedly sinister machine, it showcased plenty
of prototype Jaybrake parts - and lots more that are available right
now. Like the Jaybrake Six caliper. Beautifully crafted, it features
half a dozen progressively sized pistons for smooth, even braking power.
This is a caliper combining eye-popping and fresh as tomorrow style with
real performance. It's made in the USA, too. Jaybrake
is now housed in a giant 80,000 square foot facility in Springville,
NY, and everything carrying the Jaybrake name carries a made in the USA
sticker.
Whether it's retro choppers and bobbers or slammed-down
Pro-street, Jaybrake is a natural. This is a company that's been there all
along and sometimes it just makes sense to go straight to the source
- the originals. The Jaybrake Classic Series controls, as one example, are
available either chrome plated or polished aluminum and there are a variety
of lever options, some even featuring integrated micro switches. These
calipers and controls work better than ever, look better than ever and
the design is classically perfect. This isn't some wannabe stuff,
this is the real thing.
Don't just take our word for it, though. Flip
open the FatBook and see for yourself. Look at everything Jaybrake, the classic
and the contemporary. These are the calipers and controls and accessories top
builders have been using for decades. Sure, the industry's grown
over the past 20-plus years, and there are some darn good suppliers out
there. But there's only one original. Sometimes nothing less than
Jaybrake will do, and it's all available through Drag Specialties.
