A review like that isn't surprising to ITP. They developed the Mud Lite XTR by combining the award-winning technologies of the original Mud Lites and 589M/S tires to produce a smooth riding mud tire, maybe the smoothest on the market today. The Mud Lite XTR is the result of some of the most extensive R&D effort ever from ITP and it's the industry's first Extreme Terrain Radial tire. Hence XTR. The Mud Lite XTR's super-aggressive tread design features some really deep, angled and grooved lugs to achieve an exceptional level of traction. "It digs out of anything," one tester wrote after climbing out of every rut he could find. The new Mud Lite XTRs even climbed over a mud-and-water covered 14-inch steel culvert without any slip, this done in 2-wheel drive. "The tires were simply unfazed," they said. Those deep tread lugs did their thing without giving the tire a chunky/clunky feel, too. A lot of that performance comes from the Mud Lite XTR's radial design. Radial construction lets the Mud Lite XTR not only ride smoothly but also find lots more traction than a bias-ply tire ever could. A radial tire's footprint actually grows under load. It creates a larger contact patch to dig in and pull out. And a radial tire has better flotation properties, making the Mud Lite XTR far less prone to sink deep into the mud. And these tires are tough. There's 6-ply construction here, and the Mud Lite XTR has a rubber compound able to shake off abuse."Long term durability," the testers found, "is without a doubt unquestionable." At the end of their no-holds-barred session the Mud Lite XTRs still had the molding nubs in place. The tires looked brand new. All that deep-mud and muck performance doesn't come at the expense of regular trail-riding comfort, either. Chalk that up to the Mud Lite XTR's radial construction. Radial tires are far more flexible than bias ply tires. They'll soak up irregularities and uneven surfaces without a hitch. Radials actually take some of the work off the shoulders of the suspension system to smooth out the ride, one more reason those testers called the Mud Lite XTR the perfect all-purpose trail tire. Deep mud, hard-pack trails and everything in between, the ITP Mud Lite XTR takes it all in stride. These do-it-all mud and trail tires are available in plenty of sizes and diameters for plenty of Quad applications. There are 12-inch sizes ideal for primarily muddy conditions, offering enhanced flex and flotation, and there's a revolutionary 14-inch model that's an excellent all-around trail-and-mud choice. This tire's lower-profile sidewall delivers a dramatic improvement in handling. The size rundown includes 25/8R12, 26/9R-12, 27/9R-12 and 27/9R-14 fronts and 25/10R12, 26/11R-12, 27/11R-12 and 27/11R-14 rears. They're all available through Parts Unlimited, and they're all in stock for immediate delivery. Looking for that elusive combination of a great trail tire and a great mud tire? You've just found it.
