Chris and Richard realized that in order to get the kind of unique motorcycle parts that they wanted for their own bikes, they’d have to make them themselves. Necessity is the mother of invention…
Chris Beshere and his father, Richard, started Acme Precision in 1999. They make all kinds of motorcycle parts and the first of them to hit the FatBook is a collection of four high-end mirrors: the Oval, Stealth, Chili Pepper and Arrow.

ave you heard of Acme Precision yet? Dave Perewitz has. So have Kendall Johnson, Billy Lane and the guys at East Coast Choppers. Mitch Bergeron has become pretty familiar with this South Boston machine shop, too. See, when these high-end/high-profile builders go looking for some very special mirrors to become the finishing touch for one of their latest creations there’s a good chance they’ll be calling Acme Precision. There’s just no other motorcycle mirror around quite like the mirrors from Acme. These guys, it seems, can do anything. Acme even made up a special set of guitar-shaped mirrors Dave Perewitz needed for his “Gibson Tribute” bike.
Now that same Acme Precision quality, attention to detail and unique design is available to anyone who wants it. Those same mirrors, the ones the pros use, are now in the FatBook. Perewitz, Johnson, Lane and Bergeron don’t have a lock on high style anymore.
While Acme Precision makes all sorts of motorcycle parts, the first to hit the FatBook is a collection of four high-end and very special mirrors. As you might surmise from that client-list just mentioned, these aren’t just any mirrors, either. An Acme Precision mirror borders on becoming motorcycle sculpture. They’re a one-piece design, each one individually machined from a solid block of 6061 billet aluminum. And in a motorcycle industry first, the mirror glass is internally adjustable. These motorcycle mirrors mount and adjust just like the mirrors on your car or truck. The housing remains stationary, only the mirror-glass itself moves. Chris Beshere, who along with his father, Richard, started Acme Precision in 1999, spent a full two years developing these mirrors. There’s a patent pending on the internal adjustment mechanism. It’s that unique.
The four styles of Acme Precision mirrors now available through Drag Specialties include the Oval, Stealth, Chili Pepper and Arrow. It’s a quartet of designs that will complement any style build. “With so much stuff already out there in the aftermarket,” Chris says, “and with all those mirror shapes from all of those companies, I knew I had to do something different. I think I have it here.”
Avid riders themselves, Chris and Richard were always on the lookout for unique parts to customize their own bikes, parts that would make a motorcycle stand out and make a statement. When it came to mirrors, though, they soon realized that to get something really different they’d have to make what they wanted. “We began drawing up our own designs,” Chris says. But looks alone weren’t enough. The Acme Precision mirrors had to incorporate something no other mirror had: they would be a one-piece design with that internally adjustable mirror glass. Two years later, after extensive R&D and plenty of keyboard time spent mapping things out with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, Acme had a system that worked perfectly, looked great and remained maintenance free. “That’s when we knew we were onto something!” Chris says.
Whatever the part he’s making, Chris Beshere has always tried to come up with something totally different than what’s already been done. Like these mirrors with their internal pivot mechanism for the glass. There’s nothing else like them. It’s an efficient design, too, Chris says. The mirror itself stays perfectly in adjustment, completely protected from the wind. Ordinary motorcycle vibration doesn’t affect the adjustment of the mirror, either, he says. And mechanical details aside, the mirrors lend a clean, integrated look to any bike they’re mounted on. Relying on a couple decades of experience machining specialty parts for the aerospace industry–and using a bank of high-speed CNC mills and lathes–Chris custom machines each mirror body to exacting specifications. The CNC machines employ 3-D technology, too; everything is cut and formed in three dimensions. These mirrors are extremely detailed. Chris and his father, both lifelong motorcyclists, have turned their talents to custom two-wheelers and parts like these are the result. “It’s been a lot of fun,” Chris says. “I’m finally able to design my own parts and see it all develop. And now actually moving into the FatBook, it’s a dream come true.”
Each Acme Precision mirror starts out as a solid bar of aluminum, 8-inches long, 1 1/4-inches thick and approximately 2 1/2-inches wide. Machined from billet, the mirrors are extremely strong. Because they’re machined and not cast the shapes can be made much more graceful and flowing, too. The billet doesn’t lose any strength. All the intricate parts required for the internal adjustment are CNC machined, as well, and the mirror glass itself is the highest quality material available, automotive grade. Once mounted on the bike (the mirror housings attach with a standard SAE 5/16 - 24 thread) the mirrors adjust by simply pressing on the glass surface, similar to a manually adjusted automotive mirror. The internal swivel assembly allows 15-degrees of movement in all directions, and the mirror glass itself is easily replaceable, too.
Acme Precision mirrors are the cream of the crop. They’re most definitely high-end parts, and they’re available to everyone now that Acme Precision is in the FatBook. Mirrors like these, as you’d suspect, aren’t cheap, though. They’re probably not for everyone, either. “I realize you can go out and buy a pair of mirrors for $39,” Chris Beshere says. “I also know they won’t be anything like these.” These are mirrors for customers demanding only the very best, the most unique. And now, at $179.95 a side, you can give it to them. Take a look and call your rep for more information.

Each Acme Precision mirror starts out as a solid bar of billet aluminum…

…and are then each carefully machined to their exact specifications. Acme Precision mirrors are one-of-a-kind, with internally adjustable mirror glass…a motorcycle industry first.
