SuperTrapp’s IDS2 Series is ideal for ATV applications for everything from hunting to the racetrack.

To meet the demand for low sound, without sacrificing power, SuperTrapp developed the IDS2 Quiet Series, which features two internal chambers to help lower sound levels, along with SuperTrapp’s signature tunable discs.

or many, SuperTrapp is one of the first exhaust companies that comes to mind when thinking about giving an ATV a performance boost. But, what exhaust company comes to mind when you are thinking about plowing through the mud on the very same ATV? Well, for High Lifter, a leader in custom aftermarket ATV accessories, it’s SuperTrapp.
When it comes to getting down and dirty, there is no messier adventure than the increasingly popular sport of “mudding.” And when comes to mudding, no one does it better than High Lifter whose president, Scott Smith, started the mudding craze nine years ago by developing lift kits for ATVs which allowed for the additional ground clearance required to navigate mud holes.
The sport has grown from its origins in the South to now cover the entire eastern half of the country. In fact, according to High Lifter sales manager Dan Doughty, the High Lifter Mud Nationals is now the largest ATV mud event in the entire world. This year’s event drew an astounding 6,500 participants to Texas’s Mud Creek Off Road Park.
The Mud Nationals are a good example of how this new niche sport goes way beyond just “playing in the mud.” Rather, it is an organized, fierce competition highlighted by the SuperTrapp Mud Bog in which various classes of vehicles power through a pit of specially-prepared mud in 2-3 mph “sprints.”
SuperTrapp Mud Bog riders needed every last ounce of power out of their ATVs to complete their trek through the waist-high mud pits, so they turned to the same place as any other ATV rider looking for power: SuperTrapp.
“A SuperTrapp exhaust offers several advantages for mudding,” Doughty said. “Most importantly, a SuperTrapp makes power above and beyond stock. Secondly, the tuneable disc system allows you to tune the exhaust to determine where you want the power band on the ATV. Finally, it’s a durable product that lives well in the mud.”
The sound issue is a touchy topic among ATV enthusiasts and noise-adverse non-ATV riders, and it is not going away any time soon. ATV riders often receive criticism for overly loud pipes on public land, and this has led many areas to restrict riding privileges or remove them altogether.
To meet the growing need for quiet exhausts that still offer performance benefits over a stock system, SuperTrapp has developed the IDS2 Quiet Series which utilizes SuperTrapp’s signature tunable discs and features two chambers inside the exhaust to help lower sound levels.
“Noise is the enemy of the ATV industry because a lot of people don’t like to listen to loud pipes and I’m one of them,” Doughty said. “What I really like about SuperTrapp’s product is that it offers what I call ‘quiet power.’ A SuperTrapp exhaust gives you more power than stock, but it also keeps you within the set dB requirements for your riding area. The pipes are even great for hunting because a SuperTrapp is quiet enough that is isn’t going to scare all of the animals right out of the forest.”
While “mudding” may be the one of the hottest things going in the ATV industry, ATVs are most widely used to cover a variety of other terrains and applications. These can range from all-out high performance racing to more discreet hunting applications. SuperTrapp offers a solution for each of these extremes and most everything in between.
For riders looking to gain an edge on the ATV racetrack, the IDS2 Race Series can be tuned for a perfect balance of horsepower and torque. As with all of SuperTrapp’s tunable ATV exhausts, the diffuser discs function as a U.S. Forrest Service approved spark arrestor, which eliminates some additional cost and maintenance.
If your customers are more likely to be hauling cargo on the farm than they are to be hauling tail at the race track, they may prefer SuperTrapp’s IDSX exhausts. This series of exhausts is designed specifically for big bore utility vehicles in need of more low-end torque and near stock sound levels. So, while ideal for applications such as farming, hunting and all-terrain riding, the SuperTrapp adjustable disc system allows the rider to tune the IDSX for more horsepower and sound quality at different points on the powerband by adding or subtracting diffuser discs.
SuperTrapp has recently added several new IDSX applications including the Yamaha Kodiak 450, Kawasaki Brute Force and Yamaha Rhino 660. To view the full list of product applications for both the IDSX and IDS2, visit www.supertrapp.com.
No matter which SuperTrapp pipe your customer chooses for their ATV, they can be sure it will meet their needs. SuperTrapp’s signature tunable disc technology means that whether your “mudding” down South or trail riding out West, a SuperTrapp can fit the task.
