World Snowmobile Association has announced a multi-year agreement
with Parts Unlimited as Presenting Sponsor of the WSA Snocross
Worldwide Championship. WSA’s Scott O’Mally
stated, “Once again we are privileged and honored by Parts
Unlimited’s commitment to the motorsports industry and their
pledge for a multi-year contract as Presenting Sponsor of the WSA
Snocross Worldwide Series. Such a commitment solidifies their motto: “We
Support The Sport.”
Not only will Parts Unlimited support the WSA as a Presenting Sponsor,
the company will also bring to the table its Arctiva brand of outerwear,
Z1R helmet brand and Trukke boots as WSA SWC sponsors. In addition
to top professional racers such as Justin Tate and Brad Pitlik
wearing Arctiva gear, it will also be worn at events by WSA officials
as well. “I need my people (officials) safe and warm out
there,” said WSA race director Blair Bodley. “These
guys are out there in the cold and wind for sometimes 12 hours.
Arctiva and Trukke will get that job done for us.”
“We’re happy to be involved with the World Snowmobile
Association and the Snocross Worldwide Championship,” said
Jeff Fox, President/CEO of Parts Unlimited. “We enjoy snowmobiling,
snowmobile racing and supporting the sport, so partnering with
the WSA in presenting the SWC is a natural fit for us. We look
forward to working with the WSA during the coming seasons.”

action at the Lambeau Field, Green Bay WSA round in February.

Where football greats such as Bart Starr, Jim Taylor and coach
Vince Lombardi once thrilled their fans, last February the WSA
Snocross riders were at Lambeau Field to produce some thrills of
their own.

and man-made obstacles mixed with Mother Nature herself to turn
the industrial urban enclave at Milwaukee’s old Pabst Brewery
into a Hollywood-like stage set of flying snowmobiles last April.
Despite rainy skies, the fourth annual Red Bull Fuel + Fury freestyle
snowmobile event entertained a capacity crowd, christening a new
superstar of the young sport.
Chris “Big Air” Burandt, 26, of Kremmling, Colo. scored
93 points on his second of two runs by connecting on a large variety
of tricks such as a Rock Solid, Indian Air, Superman seat grab
and riding the 8-foot-high, 40-foot-long rainbow rail. But it was
the Holy Man trick in which Burandt floated mid-air above his Arctic
Cat sled over the mega 100-foot gap jump that wowed the judges
and crowd.
“This is an obstacle course for a reason and I think I won
because I went out and assaulted everything and hit everything,” Burandt
said about his winning second run in front of the estimated capacity
crowd of 2,500 packed into the tight 150-foot by 500-foot venue. “This
isn’t just ramps. This is wall rides, rails, and jibs. This
is my kind of riding and I’m glad I won.”
Burandt outscored Justin Hoyer, 23, of Ellsworth, Wis. (defending
champion) and Heath Frisby, 20, of Caldwell, Id., earning him the
$4,000 first-place prize. Three other top professional U.S. riders
and two international riders from Canada and Sweden completed the
elite, eight-rider field.
While Burandt wowed the crowd with his big air tricks, it was the
backflips of the two Parts Unlimited/Z1R/Arctiva-sponsored riders
Frisby and Hoyer that drew the biggest applause. Frisby connected
on four total backflips and Hoyer added one to his trick repertoire
this year. “I’ve been a little bit nervous to do it,” Hoyer
said of the backflip, which he first learned on a dirt bike. “It
just took a big crowd like this to push me over the edge a little
bit and they loved it.”
The SCS Racing-designed course featured six steel ramp jumps, two
natural dirt jumps, a wall ride, the 40-foot-long rainbow rail,
and an old Pabst beer truck-turned gap obstacle. Over 3000 cubic
yards of dirt, snow and mostly wood chips were trucked in to construct
the course base.
“Red Bull Fuel and Fury has always been an innovative, unique event,” said
Hoyer about the course. “It really has elevated the whole sport, bringing
in new elements to the game. This event has grown freestyle snowcross enormously.”
