PDS is here and ATV riders will love it. Ohlins PDS (Progressive Damping System) technology is a mainstay in the rough-and-tumble competition of World Rally Car (WRC) racing, and if you’ve seen those Rally Cars fly through the forest you know how important suspension control is to them. That same level of Ohlins control–PDS–is now available to the equally rough world of ATVs. Making it even better, Ohlins is offering this ATV suspension upgrade as separate pieces, too. For certain Sport Quad applications the shocks and the springs can be mixed and matched to the exact application and rider needs. PDS is a wonderful concept, and it works even better. In a nutshell, PDS uses two pistons in the same shock body. There’s a small cylinder with a smaller bore at the top of the shock body, and a correspondingly smaller piston enters that bore only at the extreme end of the shock’s stroke. This second piston and bore has no effect on the main shock and its valving during most of the stroke, but when that shock gets close to bottoming out the second piston goes into action. The net result is main shock valving set for a relatively softer ride overall, and stiffer valving–from that secondary piston and bore–coming into play when the going gets roughest. Combine that with the option of choosing springs with the exact rating you need–for the machine, the rider and the intended use–and you’ve got it all. For Sport Quads that need them the new Ohlins shocks with PDS offer the ultimate in suspension control. There are even shocks available for ATVs with extended A-arms. All of this is brand-new, just out and Parts Unlimited has it. Hard-charging ATV riders and racers will want it, too. Call your rep today for more information. |
