o kidding, they’re out there, and they’re out there in growing numbers. Loud pipes on a Harley might have been a barrel of fun once, but in most parts of the country today those loud pipes of days-gone-by will have you pulled over to the side of the road and on the wrong end of a fix-it-or-else ticket. Motorcycle noise abatement is getting to be a big deal. It’s something forefront on the minds of city council members everywhere, and it’s a “feel good” issue and a politician’s dream. Without much pushing this whole thing could go nationwide in a big hurry.
How all this came about is debatable, but we all know there are guys out there who just like to make noise. They’ll look for the loudest set of pipes they can find and then take the baffles out of them. Well, keep that up long enough and it’s no surprise that a sizeable chunk of the public at large is screaming for some kind of regulation. Thankfully, none of this has gone unnoticed in the aftermarket. Harley parts suppliers, exhaust manufacturers especially, are pro-actively responding with pipes and mufflers that still enhance looks and performance, still sound deep, throaty and distinctively Harley-Davidson, but do all that with a hefty dose of social responsibility. And Samson M/C Products is one of the leaders.
Kenny Price, the main man at Samson, saw this coming years ago. Those Samson “Stealth Mufflers” that have been out for a while now are just the tip of the iceberg at Samson, too. These are mufflers that are just a little bit louder than stock, they won’t bother anybody, but they still have that unmistakably deep Samson tone. It was all done with steel baffling, too, which means there’s nothing to burn out so a Stealth Muffler will sound the same throughout its life. It’ll be a long life, too, since the Stealth Muffler is double-walled. Besides adding durability, that’s a design that cuts down the noise level even more. Samson’s Stealth Mufflers look great, sound great and they won’t rattle anyone’s window–or cage. And like we said, those Stealth Mufflers are just the beginning. There’s plenty more to come from Samson, and it’ll be here in the blink of an eye.
Samson M/C Products is dead serious about this whole motorcycle noise issue, so much so that the Samson R&D Team has worked a completely new lineup of Samson exhausts. They’ve done it in their own test lab set up to duplicate what the feds use for their testing. The result? A whole new line of custom Samson exhausts that’ll be available by the time you get the next issue of this magazine. And these new pipes, classic Samson’s to the core, are all about quiet. Sure, they’ll keep that classic Samson look, the Big Guns 2 look that’s been so popular for so long, and of course they’ll have that signature Samson sound, too. Only now it’s been moderated just enough to keep everybody happy. The pipes accomplish all that with an all-new baffle technology, steel of course, and that’s something Samson started developing about a year and a half ago. It’s almost here, and not a minute too soon.
Of course the new quiet Samsons will all be available through Drag Specialties, and those Stealth Mufflers and a brand-new V-Rod Caliber Muffler are available right now. But keep your eyes peeled and your ears open. Quiet pipes are coming, and Samson’s leading the way. Contact your Drag Specialties rep for more details.
