The year was 1984. Here, Yamaha’s Kenny Roberts leads Randy Mamola en route to a victory in the Formula One event at the AMA National roadrace at Laguna Seca. Twenty-one years later, this July Roberts will be at the track (now named Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca) for its first-ever running of a FIM Grand Prix utilizing the exciting MotoGP class. Roberts, who went on to win three World Championships in his career, now has his own Grand Prix team with rider Shane “Shakey” Byrne handling the riding duties on the KTM-powered Team Proton KR machine. As for Randy Mamola, his career path has led him into broadcasting and he will be at the event working on the worldwide television broadcast.
