Pirone started TP with $200, a compressor, some tools, and a phone. He bought and sold cars to stay afloat in the early days, and worked on engines, investing the profits in more machinery, later hiring people whose talents complemented his own and concentrating on building and repairing motorcycles. The manufacturing side of TP Engineering was born out of frustration with the available parts he had to work with. Unhappy with the quality and availability of aftermarket engine cases, cylinders, flywheels and connecting rods, he set out to make his own. That led to redesigning and building all the motor parts in-house. It’s still that way today, too, with every part on a TP Engineering V-twin engine made in-house, from the Pro-Series crankcases with integrally cast-in crank-bearing hubs to keep the crank bearings from moving, to the revolutionary Pro-Vent rocker covers with a special design that separates oil from air more efficiently and virtually eliminates oil carry-over into the air filter. And don’t forget the groundbreaking Pro-Series Smart Pump. Not only does it provide a constant flow of oil to the crankshaft at any RPM, greatly increasing the life of the crank pins, connecting rods, pistons, and cylinders by reducing operating temperature, it’s also the first Evo-style oil pump to route motor oil to the oil filter before sending it to the engine. The individual parts and pieces that go into each TP engine are pretty impressive, but the complete engines will blow you away. They come in displacements of 114, 121, and 124 cubic inches. The big numbers aren’t just for bragging rights—they’re backed up by performance. All Pro-Series engines will easily produce one horsepower and one-foot pound of torque per cubic inch at the rear wheel. Each engine comes with a full complement of TP Pro-Series parts, including Pro-Vent rocker boxes and Pro-Series forged-steel roller rocker arms, a Pro-Series Smart Pump, a Pro-Series breakerless single-fire ignition and TP’s new Scramjet air cleaner. Even today, as established as TP Engineering is, Pirone spares no expense on the latest tooling and machinery, which is upgraded almost every month. Pirone is still hiring the best in the industry, too, including Duke Wainright, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast who came to TP Engineering with a Fortune 500 background in areas including IT, operations, marketing, and sales. Wainright has been on board for almost two years and is focused on TP achieving the growth and success it deserves, one customer at a time. Most motorcycle dealers find themselves in the same position as Tom Pirone did in the early days, not always able to trust the parts and accessories they order for their customers. But you don’t have to worry about that when you deal with TP Engineering, because everyone there is as passionate about their work as Pirone, which you’ll discover when you try the product, talk to technicians, or check the status of an order.
